I know it's cliche, but DDP.

Big fan if Ikaruga. Very nice style. Great music. Nice premise. Don't care for the scoring system.
Regardless of the scoring system, it's difficult in a "not so cheap" way. Yeah, tons of hard deaths, but they're always avoidable. Enjoy the patterns too.
I also like Gigawing. Dunno why. Maybe cause it was the first game I pirated on my Dreamcast.
Dangun Feveron is fun too. It's Cave actually trying to make a game with a scoring system.
Gradius V was also super good.

well, pcb only games that are quite new always get few votes.
basically, look at games by:
cave, treasure, and raizing
and you wont go far wrong

I imagine that it would be extremely difficult to top Mushihimesama Futari. I certainly have never encountered a greater game in the genre. Ketsui certainly comes close, though.

just my opinion tho....i love both games....but ketsui definitely has the edge for me

yeah my top 3 is definitely Futari / DFK / Ketsui, but those 2 are pretty far behind in my mind because they loop and don't have a "2nd loop only" mode, which absolutely sucks once you master first loop.

so you are saying you like futari more because its easier? and it is...at least scoring wise...
if you have 'mastered' the first loop of ketsui, you should be ready to move on to the 2nd loop....otherwise you need more work
