For those with the XBOX 360.
Honest pole. If you have had your system for over 2 months, has it failed? Please answer honestly if you do own the system. This is not make the system look bad or spread propaganda. I just want honest answers.

Purchased a unit in May '06 (Samsung MS25 drive) and no problems whatsoever.
I also purchased a NTSC-J HDMI unit on ebay with a "stuck drive" for $41. I wouldn't say this model "failed" because it never got a RROD. I just took the tray out of the drive and manually insert the discs - it reads them just fine.

Both models. We got our first 360 for Christmas last year, and we're on our FIFTH FUCKING REPLACEMENT now. That's FOUR times the damn systems have died on us. Because of this, and that I prefer playing games on my PC, I haven't touched it at all, but since my dad and brother play it all the time, they've been replacing them.
Microsoft needs to go die in a fire for making such a low-quality console.

I have the new system since march 08 and no problems yet.
My 360 lies horizontally on a hard surface and there's plenty of space around it for cooling.
I guess if you don't have enough free space around it it may rrod earlier.
Also I could think that it may rrod sooner if you have it standing vertically imo.

Mine ain't dead BUT I WISH IT WOULD DIE! It sometimes shuts off randomly while in the middle of a game, which is really annoying. -_-;
Oh & I'm chewing through batteries like nothing on earth.. fun stuff there. The only things I've done that might have affected this is...
- Added a faceplate
- Put the console vertically positioned
- Exchanged the HDD for a larger one
But NONE of those should cause any issues with my unit.. but I expect it to die soon anyway.

I bought a 360 on launch day, after about 5 weeks the disc drive started scratching discs beyond repair so it had to be sent off to Microsoft. My 2nd 360 lasted about 5-6 months, before getting the dreaded RRoD error at startup and being sent off to Microsoft. My 3rd 360 lasted well over a year, but also developed RRoD and was sent back to Microsoft. My 4th 360 is still working, but it hasn't had the workload of my other 360's as i'm frankly sickened by Microsoft's shoddy hardware and have switched to the PS3 for multi-format games, the 360's just used for the few exclusives i'm interested in but I really don't want to support Microsoft after such bad experiences with their hardware this generation.
I've had mine since shortly after launch and it's still kicking. It has its issues though. It'll get DREs, especially if it's not getting enough air. It can be loud at times and as of late, the disc drive door doesn't open on it's own sometimes. It requires me pushing on it to eject. I keep mine vertical BTW.
It's a great system if you're interested in getting one. Most fun I've had gaming since the Dreamcast.

Not sure how to answer this. I got my US 20GB system because it was a red-ring that someone didn't want to bother dealing with and was going to instead put a few rounds through it before I rescued it and sent it off for repair. I've not personally had any issues with either that console since it came back or the Japanese 60GB system I bought a couple of months ago after I moved here, aside from the unfortunate level of DVD drive noise on the newer system.

Just as a side note, I took a small poll at work a month ago for this reason. This is across 16 people:
# original store bought xboxes: 16
# failures of original store bought: 10
# replacements: 9
# replacements that have failed: 4
# replacement replacements: 4
# replacement replacement failures: 1
It went three levels deep for failures. My neighbor himself is on his 5th, and he has a few friends that are on their 8th and 9th.
It seems like you get about ~4000-5000 gamer points per failure.

I count failure as anything during normal use that causes the machine not to preform its primary job playing games.
I'm considering a possible purchase but I would like to run the numbers first. Thanks for your help guys.

Old model. Failed - kept scratching discs, kept giving dirty disc errors, kept hanging.
Sent it back, got a refurbed one.
That RRODed.
It's been okay since I sent it back a second time and they swapped the faulty motherboard and DVD drive out. It's effectively a brand new machine in an old box, though, and as it's only three months since it came back from the repair centre I'd have beeen spitting feathers if it'd gone tits-up aagain already.
New NTSC-J model is fine, but, again, I've only had it for three or four months.

I am currently running my launch day Xbox 360 and some how it continue to run…
The actual build date is:
October 31, 2005

My Japan 360 is a likely a launch model as well as it is build date at:
November 08, 2005 — I bought it in the spring of this year of 2008 and do not know its history. It continue to run for now and I will seek the service of a local technician for repairs on this unit if it is fail.
I cannot know how these things continue to run

to the defence of my post which was for no failures ive only had mine for about 3 days
