NXE

Post by Elixir »

NXE's out. Downloaded it about 20 mins ago, made a Mii (girl, obviously), and browsed around. The key upgrades for me are 1680x1050 support, and the ability to remove games with 0 gamerscore off your gamercard. Unfortunately if you have ANY achievements in a game, you can't remove them. But oh well, I get rid of Megaman 9 and Undertow.

Overall it's a bit overwhelming (the guide button is now the old dashboard) and half of the marketplace is still down, but I like the interface in general.

I agree, it is a bit overwhelming. I do like being able to take off games with 0 gamerscore, though.

Oh, and I think the Community Games could be really cool, if it takes off. Doujin shooters, ftw!

Right now the servers are so overloaded though that the marketplace is utter garbage.

It's frozen three times on me so far. It's probably due to the marketplace still being under construction however.

Wow, since the update has landed I can't seem to join very many games of Bomberman Live without it freezing; the installed games still have loading times, and the 1680x1050 support is letterboxed.

What a piece of shit.

Seems to be some kinks still to be fixed, understandable but annoying. My dude is a vampire looking guy that bleeds out his arse.

Can't play live Soulcal :( back to leaderboard chases until the usual Live brownout period smooths over

I was gonna be mad at NXE till I found the old way in the center button, the history delete, and the rip games to HD.

Seeing a Mii with custom soundtracks playin' doesn't hurt though.

I give a half-hearted thumbs up to the 360Wii duct taped experience

Jesus Christ this interface is horrible. I've just reached the point where I immediately pull up the guide and go from there. All these cascading windows and random crap I don't care about... My eyes hurt.

Avatars just make me feel sad. Pointless. But hey...at least Microsoft has another microtransaction source.

Themes are now gimped, and I have a huge blank spot taking up half the screen. Lovely. I pity anyone that recently bought a theme. You now get a single image that's mostly covered up.

In short: Too much pointless shit.

SERIOUSLY. I mean I understand that you're required to have the latest version of the dashboard in order to connect to Xbox Live, and I know that you're forced to use Xbox Live if you want to get the most out of your console, but people will probably agree with me that the original dashboard was good. And people probably want to keep using the original one. But hey, guess what, you can't. I don't know why, but that's lame. Given that you're shown the original dashboard when you purchase a 360, offline users that decide to get Live later down the track are going to be confused as hell.

The newer dashboard has a lot of useless shit. I'm on the Japanese marketplace and I know this judging from what I've seen. Sure, it's nice to have the content displayed differently; Miis are useless so I just create abortions, and a few things are appreciated like 1680x support but seriously, it's the same shit in a new shell. There isn't actually any new content there.

I'm glad I can say this on this forum because I'd probably get slaughtered over at SA.

whatever... it works. I had no issues navigating it and the HD install, sold.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

There's a fair bit of hating going on, especially in regards to half of the new dashboard taking up the screen making prior themes almost redundant. My complaints are different, though. I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't delete that piece of shit Ninja Gaiden 2 off my gamercard entirely because oops, I have a couple of achievements!!! You can only remove games with 0, for some unknown reason. Trial games appearing on your profile shouldn't have been an issue to begin with.

A widespread issue is that people are experiencing freezing issues. For myself, it's near impossible to join a Bomberman Live match without it shitting bricks. This is pretty disappointing, but I hope it's just because it's the first day. I can create a game, but it STILL freezes for 30 seconds before proceeding. The friends list tab seems to have freezing issues, which I heard about before experienced.

I think FORCING people to use the new dashboard and FORCING people to use a Mii is a pretty stupid idea. Apart from that I don't mind too much, so long as they clean it up and make online games playable again.

One word: Netflix. This was really the only feature I was looking forward to with this update and it works beautifully. Group chat will be nice too. I can play with my friends and not have to listen to moronic drivel and trash talk in the lobby any more.

I liked the straightforwardness and simplicity of the old dash as well, but I'm fine with this. It'll just take some getting used to. And yeah, I really don't like the whole avatar thing. I could care less about themes.

Honestly- I can't stand the new MANDATORY setup at all. It's terrible!

It bothers me soo much that I really just want to cancel my Xbox Live Gold accounts and be done with that part of that system. I won't- games are too good- but I thought I was playing a system for adults? Why am I forced to have an avatar that is straight out of Wii? I can't stand my Wii!

Pluses- rip to HD, remove 0 gamerscore, Netflix, create a party before going into games (some games proprietary part systems are broken at best). the 16:10 Widescreen PC monitor support upgrade sounds nice as well.

Negatives- dumb Wiivatars. Clunky menu system. MANDATORY. Freezing issues. Negating the value of my Themes I've stupidly purchased. Not organized very well at all.

I don't see why I couldn't get even a few of those benefits in the old setup- or even the option to choose! I tried everything to back out of having to make an avatar. Honestly- if I play a bunch of M Rated FPS game, violent survival horror, and plenty of action titles (Ninja Gaiden 2)- what the hell makes microsoft think I'd want to make a cute little avatar that I can put makeup on?

Screw this- I'm going to make a petition if I don't find one before the weekend is up.

Oh awesome, so I log in today and hit up Bomberman Live only to find that there's a mandatory update "with avatar and party support". So I download the update, then it tells me to simply re-download the arcade game from the marketplace. Too bad you can't redownload anything as the marketplace is down.

So I guess that's out of the picture until they get the marketplace up. Great.

I think it's just a knee jerk reaction on most peoples' part. We get this shiny new dash update and we're poking around in places we probably never even bothered to with the old dash. I mean honestly, how long do any of us spend in the dash at all? Hitting that center button on your controller is really all you'll need 99% of the time and now it's faster and better organized in that respect. The quick launch menu is a great addition; no need to spend navigating the overly complicated menus everyone is hating.

Yeah, I didn't really think twice about any of the layout. I just ran to the HD install and installed a game then.

I use the silver button also most the time and that is much better now. Honestly none of it really is a big deal to me.... I spend no time on my dash and it doesn't look weird to me.

Me waits for the usual xbots to tell us how awesome it is that they get free advertisements in the menus of their Mii60s now, as well. And that you have to pay merely 60 EUR a year for this (netflix won't work without "gold" subscription either). And if you don't see how super awesome those new "features" are, then you are just a hater.

Like others, its a giant cluster-fuck. It's pretty nice, but I sit and stare at the screen for 5 minutes before i have any idea what i need to do. I move through the options like a newborn navigating a house on his hands and knees for the first time. Then i remember that the guide button brings up all i need. The layout looks nice, but the avatars are stupid.

I like that i can now do everything from xbox.com. Whenever i play i usually sit in my computer chair, so if people message me they receive answers back from my computer (even though i do use usb for the 360). And now i can buy games and content from the PC as well.

I keep going to click the Friends button but it's turned into a bloated tab now. Having the original dashboard as the guide button means we have two dashboards, which is retarded.

I'm sure there's something positive about this update somewhere.

There were always lots of ads everywhere. And the Netflix stuff sucks too, even though I've never used the service in any way at all.

Miis were stupid, but Avatars have them beat by a ton in that department!

Aside from the hair, this in no way resembles me.

Also, what happened to the "Eject Drive" option that used to be on every screen. Yeah it was totally pointless because you have to walk over to the console to change discs anyway but I liked it, damn it.

Well...the background issue suddenly makes sense. They're charging 250 points for "Premium" themes. Roughly twice what original themes cost. What I love, however, is that old themes are still on the market for 50 points...despite being gimped.

I suppose it doesn't make much difference...with all the big-ass pictures and other useless crap in the way...there's not much to see. At least the old GUI was somewhat transparent.

This sums up most of my opinions. Installing to HD and the new guide are the only good new things.

Initially I thought party chat was good, but that was before I saw the end result - no communication in game sessions anymore, because everyone is in chat parties with their friends who may or may not be in the same game as you.
