Is Omega Boost any good?
I know it is a rail shooter but I wanted to know if it is any good? I trust that shmup players know a good action game.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

It's good. I haven't played it in awhile, so I don't know how well it holds up but I had fun with it.
Feedback will set you free.

Absolutely great. No "big" scoring mechanics but you are rewarded for speed killing bosses, killing all the enemies of the stage and avoid getting damaged. Excellent graphics and effects for a PSX game that somewhat challenged PS2 releases...Pixel_Outlaw wrote:I know it is a rail shooter but I wanted to know if it is any good? Is more like a full sphere 3D shooter rather than going full "on-rails". It's odd to describe it but thanks to the "scan" button you are always facing the action like in regular shooting games and it really has glimpses of what real 3D danmaku would look like (Hard mode, the boss at Zone 7 releases an awesome barrage in all directions and angles.
Screenshot related (normal mode though):

I love this game so much I went through the hassle of getting a japanese import copy. Heck, you can even save replays on the memory card to view them later.
If you can, play it on the PSX with the original Dual Shock. For some odd reason the Scan behaves weird on ePSXe (the PSX emu I sometimes use to record stuff) and tends to pull you to a particular point instead of keeping you tightly focused. It's hard to explain but someone who played it might understand.
The final battle surely portrays one of the coolest displays of effects.
Ok, don't take this at the ultimate truth though. I found many people disliked it so I don't wanna cloud other people's visions with my overhyped and exaggerated comments.

NOW REACHES THE FATAL ATTRACTION BE DESCRIBED AS "HELLSINKER". DECIDE DESTINATION.

yeah, it's neat.
you could call it shallow and repetitive i guess, but it's so hectic and explosive that you don't really have time to notice. the scan button elegantly disposes of the bore that is "finding next target" in most of them non-railed shooters, i wish more games had taken notice of that. i blow at it (never made it past that godforsaken tube stage), but whenever i see it lying around i feel like playing it again. also, i got my japanese copy for $5. beat that. :Þ

This game was so fucking awesome for me as a kid. the final boss is such a bitch to fight though. I can definitely agree this game is about as close as you'll get to a true 3D Danmaku shooter, it got fucking crazy sometimes. I even got an action figure of Omega Boost. (which is really cheap even nowadays.)

I used to own it and didn't care much for it. I'll stand alone on this one, it seems.
