Let's Make Some Predictions
What do you think will happen in the future of the game industry?
- House of the Dead Overkill will include a remake of the original House of the Dead. It seems very strange that HOTD2&3 doesn't have part 1 and Overkill is a prequel to the original so perfect opportunity to throw in a remake of HOTD, bump up the "value" of the package and shut up annoying reviewers complaining the game is 30 minutes long with a price tag of $50. I don't mind if the game is great but mainstreamers are different. I think this has a high chance of happening.
- Namco will realize that the Wii is perfect for light gunners and make light gun games for it. It's quite plausible (and desirable) for them to come to their senses, but they have also released TC4 on the PS3, and it'd be like them shooting themselves in the foot by releasing light gunners on the Wii when they already have a gun out.
- Next Nintendo portable coming in 2010. The DSi is coming next year to the US and Europe, so it wouldn't make much sense for Nintendo to announce a new portable. Also, I remember hearing Koji Igarashi (guy currently in charge of Castlevania series) say that the DS is close to the end of its lifetime and that it wouldn't make sense to make a new game in the series for it.
- Nintendo will own this generation. I could almost say it like a fact. I'm glad that there's going to be a clear winner this generation.
- Next year will be a good year for old school gaming. This year's batch of old school games (MM9, Captain Commando Rearmed) seem to have done well. I can't see devs not flocking where there's easy money to be made. I hope though, that we'll not be getting a bunch of shovelware to capitalize on the craze. New Contra please.

Going off on a tangent, but at least with my setup, the Wii is quite awful for lightgun games. I bought HotD 2&3 Returns, and I could not even play it once because at about 4' from a 40" screen (I'm already as far back as I can be in that room), I cannot calibrate the aiming, because the sensor bar is not in the Wii Remote's field of view when I aim at the corner farthest away from the sensor bar. If Nintendo didn't cheap out and actually made a proper sensor bar that put an infrared emitter at each corner of the television screen, there wouldn't be this problem.
So, I just play the PC version on a 5" tablet, which actually works pretty well.

Falcom: Star Trader Forever
Compile Heart: Aleste 3
Cave: MushiFutari home console version
Konami: Gradius VI, SotN 2: Alucard's Revenge
Sega: Phantasy Star 3 and 4 PS2 remakes, box set, plus an English release
Namco: Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 1-3 home console port
Oh, wait, this is reality, right?

I rearranged the furniture to play Metroid Prime 3, which isn't even calibratable. Do that, then buy a laser level with a rectangular edge at a fucking THRIFT store. Take out its prism to produce a spot instead of a line.
Cram it onto your Wiimote with ratchet ties. Calibrate your lightgun game.
4' from my 40XBR800 would give me a seizure. You'd need a fisheye lens on the IR camera. Ninty didn't fix incident angle by consulting the I Ching or the ISF. You have to be far enough away to compensate for the "sensor bar" being above or below the screen.

I see myself getting very pissed off if I buy a Wii and those games play like shit. I already bought those games and others 'cause the prices dropped, and they needed to be picked off before they disappear from shelves.iatneH wrote:Going off on a tangent, but at least with my setup, the Wii is quite awful for lightgun games. Why is it that Bandai/Namco still hasn't released it's famous arcade racing series of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune?kozo wrote:Falcom: Star Trader Forever

It's priceless to be racing against the "Blue Devil" CPU car on the final race in the original WMMT sit-down twin cabinet setup. Pure solid "white knuckle" racing for a full twenty-two minutes with the Blue Devil in your rearview mirror sights edging closer and closer on your bumper. It's pedal to the metal with balls to the walls time!
The PS3 console could easily handle the native Sega Chichiro arcade hardware that WMMT 1-3 runs on...just add proper force-feedback steering wheel + high/low shifter + gas/brake pedal support and you're good to go. Would look great on a widescreen HD monitor with full 1080p support running at a crisp arcade spec 60 frames-per-second framerate.
Perhaps arcade exclusivity isn't just regarded for just Cave PCB titles nowdays, is it? This is the same path that Bandai/Namco is following if they don't release proper home ports of it's WMMT arcade properities. ^_~
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

Konami's next gen Castlevania for the PS3 and 360 seems to have Alucard as the main character. Now, whether it's SotN2 or 2.5D (the teaser is 3D graphics) is unknown yet. My guess is it's going to be 3D and it won't be called SotN2.kozo wrote:Konami: SotN 2: Alucard's Revenge
Gotta love Konami. They give fans everything except what they want.

- Idea Factory crawl into a hole and die after milking every developer for cross-over games.
- PS3 picks up in '09.
- Microsoft announce new console in 2010~11.
- Cave ports all of their shmups from '04 onwards to the 360 (or 5pb) and dive into the cell phone gaming industry.
- SNK make Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 3 with DSi capabilities (sigh)
- Google attempts to take over the world.
- Eventually, retail games become direct downloads so Microsoft can charge out the ass for HDDs.
- We actually see a game or localization from gaijinworks (Vic Ireland's thing)
- Konami shift IIDX to the PS3.
- NIS America localizes the currently Japan-only Atelier series.
- Street Fighter 4's online netcode will suck.
- Ketsui gets delayed again and again and again.

Heh, as an Atelier Iris fan I wouldn't mind a shot at some of the older titles, but I doubt that this'll ever come to pass - if it'd ever did, it'd probably be download-only. At this point I'm mainly hoping that Mana Khemia 2 gets picked up for localization.Elixir wrote:NIS America localizes the currently Japan-only Atelier series.
-In 2010 the DS II will be released and it will feature 4 screens. Sales will naturaly be double of what they are now.
-Second hand prices of ps2 games will rize once more people realize this generation of games suck!
-Capcom will keep releasing and re-releasing their old ps2 ports
-Unported arcade games will still not be ported. Just those games that got at least 2 releases on every platform
-At firmware 9.85 in the year 2011, the ps3 will still not allow ps1 games to be played with analog control.
-In the future people will even more appreciate that a new generation of anything sucks more than the previous generation. If I see an updated version of something and it is worst than the previous version I say: FLAME-ON!
-In the future humans will become dumber and dumber as has been the case since ~guestimation, the year 2000. Or maybe it will stabilize at some point, and perhaps go up again. But it will probably take a WWIII, god forbid.
