(EGM) rumor: Forgotten Worlds coming to XBLA & PSN

Post by gigadrive32 »

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.ph ... ostcount=1

actual quote from EGM rumor mill

Capcom appears to be digging back into the
archives for a PSN/XBLA revival of co-op floating-
dude shooter Forgotten Worlds. Zenny for everyone!
no other details provided. I hope it's true though.

I also hope, if it happens, that Capcom (or whoever actually develops it) includes original 2D CPS arcade graphics, enhanced original graphics/effects (ala Contra, Super Contra on XBLA) and new remake graphics that are still 2D or at least 2.5D, perhaps like R-Type Dimiensions.

I don't wanna see *just* a total remake/new game like Commando 3 or 1942 Joint Strike.

If its a remake they will include the original graphics. I believe its mandatory for any maker who wants to port/remake a game to include the original graphics. But if its forgotten worlds - Under A Bright Sun and not Forgotten worlds or Lost worlds, expect to see what they did with a commandos 3.

If this is a remake I just hope they let it handle by Grin which did an excellent job on Bionic Commando Rearmed.
Please not by Backbone which were responsible for 1942 Joint Strike and Commando 3.

Exactly my thoughts. I mean, it's nice that they're re-releasing old games, but I simply don't understand why people get so excited about it. You've all heard about Mame, haven't you?

The version available capcom classic collection is spot on with a dual shock controller. I wish they would release the SNK games instead (i.e. ikari warriors, time warrior etc...)

Mame doesn't feature worldwide online leaderboards.

Also it's illegal.

Was Forgotten Worlds originally an arcade release? Anyway, yeah, the recent PS2 port was just fine, so there's no way I'd buy this. I don't even like the game all that much. Too much work getting comfortable with the controls for me-- too many other more instantly gratifying shooters out there.

Yes, this was the very first CPS1 arcade release. you must have grown up in the 80s and played the sub-par 8/16 bits computer ports to fully appreciate the PS2 version.

Yes, it came out just over 20 years ago in arcades. It was the first game to use the CPS1 board ( actually caleld CP System) which, 3 years later powered Street Fighter II.

Anyway I love Forgotten Worlds. I've got it for Xbox and PSP.

I wouldn't spend the money to download XBLA / PSN if it was just a ROM-exact port, BUT if there are enhancements, like improved bullet spray and enemy kill animations (like Contra, Super Contra), then I might.

I used to play the GEN version that my friend had when we were little, and I like(d) it better than the arcade version on the CCC. Was shiny.

Especially considering that arcade companies in the late 80s weren't too concerned about copyright themselves. Probably the most famous example of stuff blatantly being lifted is Golden Axe - the death yells/screams are straight from First Blood and Conan the Barbarian. As for Capcom, a bunch of their characters are, um, "inspired by" various rock stars, movie characters, wrestlers etc. (which may or may not be a copyright violation as such; believe it or not, the extent to which a character can be copyrighted is not very clear). Probably the most obvious example is Andore in Final Fight (and, by extension, Hugo in Street Fighter 3) being based on Andre the Giant.

Also, LOL at that flyer advertising "3 high-speed crystals". I bet it also featured thousands of Schmitt-triggered flip-flops.

It's a bit sad to see people jumping with joy over having the chance to buy the same game for the fourth time, when developers of similar but newer games in the same genre are constantly being overlooked. Makes you wonder if this 'retro' fad isn't the saddest thing to happen to games. Does anyone remember when retro was about enjoying remakes of older games and games made in the same spirit?

I'd buy this. I like playing dual stick games on the 360 better. I never bought Capcom Classics Collection either.

I remember fighting Sheng Long in SF2. 20 Draw matches in a row w/ M.Bison. Now that was tough.

No doubt the Genesis or the PCE SuperCD/Turbo Duo versions.

I really hope its a sequel or a remake, but either way, using 2D sprite-based graphics, not polys.

I think CCC Xbox version works on the 360 too (they were working on a patch 2 years ago or so) you should give it a try. Feel free to contribute to the score board , I started a thread a while back.

Yeah that's really a good point. Companies in the eighties didn't bother much about copyrights so we all have the right now to play emulators. That makes sense.

So I certainly don't want to raise a discussion about the rights and wrongs of emulation but let me say just one or two things:

The question was why anybody should care about a game that can be played on Mame too? Well, beside the achievements and the online leaderboards there might be some people who want to play the game on a legal way.

Also I for myself wouldn't admit so lightminded that I do illegal things (playing on emulators or whatever) on a public forum like many users here seem to do.
