Custom Ikaruga arcade stick

Post by monoRAIL »

I customized my Hori DOA4 arcade stick. It's now a sweet Ikaruga stick, although I left the 6-button setup for Street Fighter 4 next year :D

Thats pretty slick. Would have been kinda neat (maybe) if the stick was half black and half white. Top row of buttons white bottom black.

Yay another shmup stick! That looks great antares. I assume you used snap-in buttons? I used screw-ins which meant I had to attach them to the top plate before screwing the top plate onto the plastic case, which means you can't put the artwork on top of the screws :-(

I think it's worth it though as the screw in buttons are really heavy and have a nice feel to them.

Is this regarded as the best stick you can get for the 360? Does it have sanwa parts as standard? Would love to replicate that mod, it looks great.

Yep, snap-ins.
I had to grind the buttonholes a bit, otherwise the Seimitsu buttons wouldn't have fitted as they are a bit bigger. So they are now very tight, no problem at all.

The Hori stick and the buttons are of a poor quality in comparison to Sanwa / Seimitsu parts.
To mod the thing is a lot more difficult than the HORAP for example. To change the buttons is simple but changing the stick is really a pain in the ass, it took me several hours to get it all done.

EDIT: The best stick you can get for the 360 will be this:

or this:

Both a little heavier on your credit card of course ;)

Another beauty. What was used for the art, in sopecific if you would please. I would like to know what was printed on and who printed it for you. I've been wanting to do some stuff for a while but been holding back 'cause I'm not sure what material to use for the art and how can I stick it permanently.

Thanks!

The picture is from the Thunder Force V CD (Saturn).
I just rescaled it in Photoshop and then went to my local Copy Shop (I don't know if these shops exists in the US or what they are called there). They have a paper there which is self-adhesive on one side. After it was printed I gave an adhesive foil over the picture for protection. That's it.

afaik no.

Sanwa stick, Hori buttons. It's pretty easy to swap the buttons for some nicer ones if you want to, though.
