This guy looks like he came straight from Rise of The Robots.
Not much innovation here.
This guy looks hilarious!
It looks like the same dull & boring, brown/red colours that dominated in Quake 2 are in Quake 4 as well.
The graphics don't impress me personally. Not better tahn Doom3 so far.
But then again, Quake 2 didn't fascinate me much either so I doubt I'll be getting this...
The Art concept of the weapons look cool though.
And this vehicle thing:

The real problem with this game coming out after Doom 3 and using the same engine is that the Doom and Quake story lines are not different enough to make them seems like seperate games. They have a similar style, similar enemies, and similar environments, and since they use the same technology, they look the same now too.
This seems more like an expansion for Doom 3 than a whole new game. It'll probably be awesome though.
This game will be a first person, level based shooter a la doom 3 and quakes 1 and 2 yeah? not a multiplayer death match only game like quake 3 I hope. I want a new quake single player game.
I wouldn't have any problem if Quake 4 looked like Doom3.
The problem with Quake 2, was that the graphics consisted of mainly 2 dull colours, Red & brown. Doom 3 wasn't like that, it had a rich colour palette.
But Quake 4 repeats the Quake 2 tradition judging from the pics.

yeah it's going to be a direct sequel to Quake II.
like, Quake II ends, then Quake IV picks up.
i like how the environments are shaping up, they look "punchier" than Doom III's. and i hadn't seen the first-person concept before. nice (but not the HUD).
also, there is an error in one of the image posts, you have the mixed up.

I believe it'll be a new single player game.
Though Quake I and Quake II were great in the single player sense, they really shone when it came to multiplayer. Back in the day, using an addon for Quake called Quakeworld, I used to play a mod for it online called Quake Team Fortress (the later Team Fortress Classic using the Half-Life engine was modeled after this), and it rocked. Quake II was no less awesome online, and came Quake III, online only, delivering more fast-paced excellence. My point is, a decent single player would still be cool for Quake IV, i just hope they really get down and dirty with the multiplayer. Quake has always been ID's big multiplayer-focused franchise, and I really hope they continue the trend. Doom, on the other hand, was all single player, with Doom III being no exception (though the single player was great, the multiplayer sucked pretty bad, IMO).
I still don't understand why they're picking up right after Quake II. That game probably had the dullest, least interesting single player mode in a big name FPS, and the art design sucked. The worst moment in Doom 3 was when you fought the Quake II inspired boss (won't say what it is to avoid spoilers, but anyone who's played it knows who I mean), just because it's so visually boring.
Oh well. I never cared for the Quake series in the first place (UT was my preferred multiplayer FPS), so I'm not going to pay much attention to this one either.
I'm no naysayer - i'm tired of all these people bitching about Doom 3. It's a good game, people - leave it alone!
I personally think it's very cool that they look the same. Doom and Quake are brother and sister after all. It's only natural that they resemble each other.
Doom 3 was awesome, but I played it. Then I played the expansion. This just looks like it's going to be Doom 3 with less interesting art direction, so really, what's the point?
It was one VERY good game at it's time and personally I liked the graphicsstyle (and depressing atmosphere).
I think these pictures look really promising and this will be a FPS I will really keep a close eye on. Let's indeed hope there's a good and substantial singleplayer experience to be found and it get's back to where it was before Q3: Arena!
Hopefully this won't be an arena deathmatch-only type game like Quake III:Arena. It shouldn't even be part of the series, in my opinion, much like FFXI isn't a true Final Fantasy game. Way to waste a number, SquareEnix. But who gives a shit about them nowadays anyway? We're shmuppers, not RPGers.

They've already said many times that it isn't.
I thought that it was only the DC version of Quake III that was "an arena deathmatch-only" game? It was my understanding that the PS2 version was different then that.

oh and a follow up to ziggerut vertigo, best secret level ever -low gravity rocket jump sent you across the arena.
man i miss rocket jumps.
There won't be. But damn man do I feel your pain. I loved Q1's enemies so much more than what I felt were the nondescript mecha-mush enemies of Q2. Plus it was faster and more "pure" if that makes sense to anyone.
The white clouds floating on the great blue sky
And the boiling red blood shed in fierce gaming
Those who give up halfway through
Their battered bodies will never forget!
Segata Sanshiro, Segata Sanshiro! Sega Saturn... shiro!

I agree. I prefer the first Quake much more than it's sequel. A follow up to the first Quake would truly be fantastic. This however just makes me feel a bit...meh.
The shambler was fantastic.
I have a lot of faith in Raven Software. Hell, they made a Star Trek game that was nothing short of badass (albeit a bit short), so I'm willing to bet they'll turn the Quake license into a pretty intense game.

I totally agree Andi. The enemies in the Doom series are supposed to be demons, and the enemies in the Quake series are supposed to be Aliens. That's about the only differences I can find, and the enemies in Doom 3 don't look any different from aliens, IMO, so that narrows the differences between the two even more.
Personally, I would go for Doom 3-I mean, for only $10 more then the "regular" XBOX release, you can get an XBOX version of Doom 3 that contains 2 as well. (Although I agree that that illustration does look pretty bad! )

OT, which Star Trek game are you referring to?
And is there a console port of Quake 4 planned?? All I could find on Gamefaqs was a listing for PC. MEH!
The Quake 2 & 4 Enemies are a rip-off from the "Borg" Alien race in Star Trek.
Its also funny that they're using the marines as batteries to power the robots (check the batery pods on the back of his tail) like in Matrix.
