Not recognised-Intel ICH8/ICH8R Family LPC Interface Controller-2810

Hi,
I re-istalled WinXP and all the device drivers.
However there is still an unknown device in the device manager that is not recognised!

Device:Other devices
Manufactacturer:Unknown
Location:on Intel(R) ICH8/ICH8R Family LPC Interface Controller - 2810

I've used all the chipset drivers from Asus & from Intel's home (Intel 965 chipset) but with no luck.

My current setup:
Intel Core 2 Quad 9550 2.83GHZ @2.83GHZ (Regular Fan-Cooler)
Kingston HyperX 2GB 800MHZ @833MHZ
Asus P5B-E Intel 965 chipset (On-board 1Gbit Lancard)
Onboard sound card - disable
2 x 1TB Seagate 32MB Cache Hds (Sata II)
2 x 512GB Seagate 16MB Cache Hds (Sata II)
Asus nvidia 7950GTX 512MB
Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Titanium Pro (PCI-E)
Winfast PVR 3000 Deluxe TV-Tuner (PCI)
1x Plextor DVD-RW 18x
1x Pionner DVD-Rom 16x
1 x 1.44 Floppy
Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 (USB)
WinXP Pro

Please any help will be highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

OK, I downloaded:
ACPI driver for ATK 0110 virtual device version 1.0.13.6
and it recognised it just fine.
http://support.asus.com/download/downlo ... odel=P5B-E

The dumb thing is that this driver was in the utils section, so overlooked it.

I also noticed in the Bios IDE configuration Menu, it has "Configure SATA As:" "IDE"
You can also choose RAID or AHCI
What is AHCI by the way and should I set SATA as AHCI instead of IDE?

Thanks in adance.

Dude, you need to start doing some Google searches on terms; this stuff is well covered all over the place . AHCI lets your SATA devices wurk more specially but it's not actually required; but if you want to try it out you'll probably need another driver from Asus. The normal way is to set AHCI in the BIOS and then (re)install the OS - this might not be necessary; depends on what Asus has available at their support sight (which sucks, I agree).

RAID is for multiple hard drives, but I believe you won't get any benefit from it (it comes with specific possible pitfalls and if you don't know about them you shouldn't try it out).

A quick question - the P5B-e has a fan on it, right? I have a Deluxe just because I didn't want the fan failing on me, but if you aren't overclocking (good man) and aren't particularly worried about noise or fan failures etc. it seems like it could be a decent choice and saved you about $20.

I also wonder if those RAM timings are right for the card, but that's something I don't like to do myself.

Thanks for the info!

Yes I did some Google search and found this info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_H ... _Interface
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

I'll propably try this next time I re-install WinXP Pro.

As for the Asus P5B-E M/B, no it has no fan on the M/B. I got this mainly because it supported 45nm Quad Core CPUs and 1333FSB for my future upgrades. It also has 8-USB & 7 SATA ports, as well as a 1394 IEEE.
More than enough to cover my needs.

However,as good as Asus M/B are, so much worse are their drivers!Truely horrible support. I sent them a query via e-mail and they never replied.

You think Asus mobo drivers are bad, try one of their laptops...mine came bundled with a bunch of shit that barely works with Vista. Actually I hope to reinstall the OS this weekend; some recent forced updates are fucking with things and I very occasionally get the machine refusing to correctly exit sleep mode, or funky screen resolution / aspect behavior on startup...oh, the AsusUpdate program bundled along is said not to even be Vista compatible, how's that?!
