how to make cps2 mobo fans shut the fuck up!!!

Post by jonny5 »

just got one....sounds like a plane taking off in my cab....it actually drowns out my PC fans, which are also loud

and its super annoying cuz its a higher pitched sound....i need to figure something out or my g/f is gonna kill me

i was playing and she walked in the apartment and the first thing she said was 'what the fuck is that noise?' lolz

shes generally very cool about my arcade gear but this even annoys me....its really loud

any ideas or tips would be incredibly helpful

thx in advance

Take the two boarsd apart, open up the b board (or a, whichever one it is) and unplug the fan, but leave it open so it doesn't overheat. Or you you could put a pot on it. Or a quieter fan.

Papst 612FL as the same form factor as the stock fan but much quieter.

Picture tutorial.

You need to swap the power lead over.

I'm not at my house right now so I can't check, but don't you need a special screwdriver?

that's how i read the title as well - i was thinking 'are cps2 fans as bad as mac fans in this regard?'

then i discovered he was talking about fans, not fans.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

The single-layer CPS2 boards of Mars Matrix and Gigawing are known to exist. Plus they do away with such stock cooling fan on a typical CPS2 "A + B" board set. There is the fact that single-layer CPS2 boards still suicide and no known way to revive them if they do. Best to get that damn suicide battery replaced in the meantime.

That'd be very cool and interesting conversational piece if Capcom did make such a single-layer CPS2 Progear No Arashi board. But alas, they never did though. ^_~

If you didn't want to take it apart, you could just jam a hairpin in to stop it. Someone mentioned taping the hole a bit to slow it down, I think.
I always take mine apart and put pots on them.
