STGT 2008 - Week #4 Voting (Doujin Week)

Post by sikraiken »

Image

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST

PLAY ALL THE GAMES FIRST BEFORE VOTING.

Here are links to download each game (if you already have the games, make sure you have the correct version):

Nomltest FS ver 1.0.1
Uwabami Breakers With Directx install files Without Directx install files <--- This game requires directx.
XED ver 1.02

These games are for Windows only.
All of the games require some level of directx, Uwabami requires the most it seems.

The Voting deadline for Week #4 is Monday, October 6th at 12:00am midnight EST (4AM GMT).
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/

Voting is completely private. Here's what you need to do.

Send an e-mail to STGT2008@beatthegame.net with the following required things:
- Your forum name
- What game you are voting for

While this is not required, please also add:
- WHY you are voting for the game you are voting for (your reason will not change the qualification of your vote, I'm just interested in seeing why people are voting for the game they choose. "I like this game" is not a reason, you can do better than that. "I like/chose this game because..." If you have trouble writing english, feel free to write in your native language.)

After you have sent your vote, you may not change your vote. You do not have to vote if you do not want to. You may not vote for other players (this also includes team mates). Your vote only counts if you send it to the e-mail address above. You must be part of STGT2008 to participate in voting. DO NOT PM me your votes.

I will be checking the votes two hours before the deadline. I will not be opening the e-mail account and looking at the votes before then. If there happens to be a tie (or one vote difference) at that point when I check them, I will announce that and extend the voting period for two more hours, allowing anyone who has not voted to have a chance to vote. I will not announce what games they are. Once there is a clear winner, the game will be announced.

Thread discussion:

DO NOT:
-Do not talk about what game(s) you are going to vote for or game(s) you are not going to vote for in this thread.
-Do not talk about what game(s) you might vote for in this thread.
-DO NOT STATE YOUR VOTE IN THIS THREAD.
(I hope this makes it clear what you should NOT talk about in this thread).

DO:
-Do ask questions about voting in general.
-Do ask questions you have about any of the games ("Why does this game suck?" is not an acceptable question, however.)
-Do ask any questions you have about the tournament.
-Do discuss anything that doesn't have to do with liking/disliking one of the game selections.
-Feel free to talk about your votes with your team outside of this thread (outside of this board).

Game Selection:

Nomltest FS ver 1.0.1

Image
Default (standard) game. Both Z and X are your shot buttons, holding down Z and X produce another shot as well. Destroying all enemies in a formation gives you more points. "Dot eating" also gives you more points, the bullets just have to be within your square for a short period of time. This game has no end (good luck lasting for more than a few minutes anyway).

Uwabami Breakers

Image
Scoring involves chaining that has timing similar to DonPachi. Shift for focus fire, Z to fire, X to bomb, C to autofire. More info about the game can be found here. 3 Stages.

XED ver 1.02

Image
Shift is autofire shot, Z is shot, and X is your 'Xed'. When there are bullets within your square and you use Xed, you get points. The more bullets inside the square, the more points you will get. Xed bar fills up when you shoot enemies. Replays do not save. There is a file "CONFIG.exe" that allows you to change keys. The 2nd option when you open "XED.exe" is to enable joystick, the 1st option is just keyboard control. This game has an end.

Well, other choices seemed to be throwaways or something that would almost definitely be the winner. : )

Yeah you can. They'll get posted the same time as the results this week. I posted the week three reasons a little earlier today (sorry!).

Nope. : ) Most of the team doesn't even have time to play at all anyway. I don't even really play that much during the week, I have other stuff going on.

And it's Team Cowboy Apes Cannibal Tomahawk Rampage Massacre.

Is 3 days really enough for voting? I don't mind extending the voting a day while starting and ending the playing week a day late.

I'm probably not going to vote this week, so it's plenty of time. :)

I'd personally prefer to keep the stop time the same each week regardless.

Maybe, maybe not, but it's more than we used to have. I think in previous years we got the short list early Saturday and we had 5 games to pick from.

They're fine games. You guys can play BWR or some crap like that next year if you want.

mike, DJ Incompetent used to put up the voting threads for two days last year. There was never a problem. This is fine, however, I'll make sure the 5th week voting is put up right after the 4th week ends. That's how it should have been the entire time, but that didn't happen.

Fair enough about the deadline, I forgot about how voting worked last year.

Sorry, nomltest link is fixed. The zip had a different name when I uploaded it.

All of the games should work fine with a joypad without any need for joy2key.

They all use directx to some extent I believe. I tried them and wasn't able to get them to run.

This week is exactly why I think and have always thought that 1) doujins have no place in an international online tournament of this nature, and 2) if we absolutely, positively must have them, make sure everyone is able to run them. :p

I cannot get Uwabami Breakers to run. Something about a missing direct x .dll file. I do not have admin access on this computer. Can I still vote for one of the two I can run?
