USB converted Dreamcast stick with LCD

Post by mojo »

Just finished by Dreamcast stick modding project:

(apologies, it's hard to photograph, it looks much better in real life)

I'm using a new version of my Arcade Joystick controller which supports a Nokia 3310 LCD screen. The screen shows the autofire settings for the buttons (all off here). By holding the start button down and pressing another button, it toggles autofire for it. It could do with a backlight some day.

Stick is a Seimitsu LS-32, buttons are Sanwa OBF-32.

I bought them in Akihabara when I was there last, although I have ordered stuff from Akihabara Shop online before and they are good.

Thanks Square King :)

A backlit LCD screen would look ace...perhaps a blue colored backlight would look best? ^_~

And what's the resolution on that black and white Nokia 3310 LCD screen anyways? I guess Sega was trying to cut corners by not offering such a backlit VMU back in the day. Would've been cool if they did so.

The LCD is 84x48 pixels :)

I might upgrade the screen to a 6100 LCD, which is backlit and full colour, we shall see. The 3310 screens can't be beat for a lot of electronics projects though - very easy to interface and only 99p on fleaBay!
