Hantarex sync problem

Post by neorichieb1971 »

Just bought a hantarex EQ2 21" monitor. The only thing I can plug into it at the moment is my PS2 and the vertical sync is out.

I put my NTSC/J machine into it via SCART and got a rolling picture (flickering). The OSD says 50hz input. So I got my brothers PAL machine and put that into the monitor and it said the same thing that it was 50hz and was flickering still.

Both machines have the PS2 settings on RGB.

Then I got a svideo lead and used that and the monitor accepts the picture fine.

The only thing I can think of is that the vertical sync on the PS2 is a composite sync and the monitor is expecting vertical sync. If so what pins can I change (if any) on the scart lead to make this work?

Thanks,

Richie.

does it by any chance have a 9-pin RGB input (looks kinda like a serial port) on it?

The PS2 does not have vertical sync. It has a composite sync pin (or Video only depending on the model). If your monitor supports C-Sync it goes into the H-Sync input, not into the V-Sync port.

You possibly need a LM1881 sync stripper.

It does have a 9 pin video on it. Do you have a RGB cable that will fit?

I almost got it sync'd using one of the modes but the picture was wobbly. Colours were good though.

The options are SYNC -, SYNC+ and SYNC G. G worked best but nowhere near perfect. I have the manual so if you want pinouts on the SCART lead or the RGB9 port I can assist.

It won't sync my supergun either, which is using standard jamma signals. Again SYNC G was closest. It seems my SG only wants to work fine whilst using the XRGB2 which is doing my head in.

Thanks,

Richie.

Ya, looks like the scart input requires seperate hor/vert sync, while the 9 pin connector will allow comp sync on pin 8 (or pin 2 of ?USA Version?)

I have found some SCART to 9-pin RGB cables, but I can't remember if they worked on not which I made them up for my hantarex monitors about 4 or 5 years ago. Matt made me up some custom PS2 to 9-Pin RGB cables for my saturn, ps2 and dreamcast and they all worked a treat - but I can't find them anywhere.

I don't have my hantarex monitors anymore so you are welcome to have my 9-pin to scart cables for the cost of postage - but I can't guarantee that they will work. PM me your address if you are interested. I think I used them to connect to a scart switch box, but my memory is bad, I think I had to use 9-pin RGB to console directly as going through a scart switch box may not have worked... sorry it was a long time ago.

Certainly hacking up a PS2 scart cable and replacing the scart ent with the 9-pin connector will work fine, as I definitely has that working.

I actually swapped the hantarex monitors for 21" CRT Sony Vegas as they gave a better picture, plus 25" hantarex took up way too much room in my little old house.

Sure i'll have the cables if you can find them. I'll reward you nicely as well if they work.

Thanks for the offer, look forward to hearing from you.

Can someone join the dots for me to get this thing working? A brand new hantarex monitor is about to be thrown out of the window any minute

Is this right?

Pin 2 .......... Right audio out
Pin 4 .......... Ground (audio)
Pin 6 .......... Left audio out
Pin 7 ......... Blue video out
Pin 11 ......... Green video out
Pin 15 ......... Red video out
Pin 16 ......... Fast video blanking To Vertical Sync (pin 9)
Pin 18 ......... Ground (fast video blanking) To Horizontal Sync (pin 8
Pin 20 ......... Composite video out To Comp Sync (pin 8 )

I had the same problem with my Hantarex EQ29 and PS2.

I had to separate the H and V sync using the LM1881 sync splitter chip.
You solder the composite sync wire on one node/leg of the chip, and get H and V sync from the other side, which can then be soldered to pin 10 and 12 on the scart plug. You also need to connect a 12v power supply to power the chip though.

if you wanna do this drop me a pm, I think I may still have a diagram of the circuit at home (not sure though)
