Upgrading an X-Arcade Controller

Post by DukeErkSplee »

I've had my X-Arcade for a couple of years now and I'm looking to improve the joystick. The bat-stick just doesn't feel right after playing with ball-tops in Japan, so I started looking into Sanwa and Seimitsu's.

Unfortunately this isn't exactly my strong point, so I'm lost as to whether or not these joystick will even work in the controller. Can anyone help?

It's certainly possible: http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/produ ... demod1.htm

Perhaps you can email them and ask what type of Sanwa stick they've put in there?

obviously they used seimitsu in that one specifically for the art. you could always swap out the buttons and put sanwa in there. are the seimitsu's really that bad? i've got a bunch coming in the mail for a case i bought off big pockets. apparently sanwa doesn't make black buttons so i figured i'd do an all seimitsu just to see what the difference is.

as far as modding the x-arcade, my guess is you'd have to router out the top panel if you want to mount a jlf or similar at it's proper height. might want to just grab a new case for a jap stick though and try to sell the x-arcade. someone who likes american parts might jump on it if the price is right.

No, Seimitsu buttons are fine. In the case of shmups, button quality isn't really all that important. Chances are you won't be dying because you bought one over the other.

well it's all about your own preferences.
i HATE seimitsu buttons, because they are way too sensitive imo.
i like to rest my fingers on the buttons, but on seimitsus even my resting fingers activate the buttons >.>

You'll despise Sanwa buttons then - they're much more sensitive than Seimitsus. At least with a Seimitsu you can halfway rest your finger on it - with a Sanwa, the lightest touch of a feather triggers it.

yeah got the seimitsu's in the mail and test fitted them on my new case. feel pretty similar to sanwa, but there's a bit of dead space before you actually engage the switch. doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference, but for me personally i'll give the sanwa's the edge. i like that instantaneous response they give you, especially for fighting games. the seimitsus will be fine since this will be a shmup stick anyway.
