Good multiplayer games for Dreamcast?

Post by Jockel »

Hey guys.
I work in a shared flat for misfit teenagers and thought it would be a good idea to get them a Dreamcast, so they can play together. I am mainly looking for some games that are easy to pick up and play. The kids are 2 guys, 16 and 18 years old, and two girls, 15 and 18 years old.
Some games i already thought of:
Soul Calibur > button masher
Chu Chu Rocket > 4 players
Capcom Vs SNK 2 > Cmon it HAS to be there
Powerstone 2 > 4 player mayhem
Giga Wing 2 > so i can play something during breaks ^^
Dave Mirra BMX > the wipeout multiplayer mode is pure fun
Worms World Party > well it's worms

can you recommend some other fun mp games that appeal to the average joe?

Marvel Vs capcom has a four player mode.
And marvel vs capcom 2 can be fun if everyone does not know the exploits.

I always thought Project Justice was pretty fun and Tech Romancer is alright if you dig giant robots.

Bust-A-Move 4 is good stuff switching off in versus. Sega Marine Fishing is awesome with a controller. Dated looking, but still great arcade style fun.

You've pretty much got the good four player stuff covered.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Hear me now and believe me later.....erm Virtua Tennis 2 is all they need. If they could pick one, they should choose this.
4 player mode, meaning 2 vs 2 and there are both male and female players so I feel another battle of the sexes coming.
It's the only thing I play with friends.

perhaps Tetris 4D, which has 4 player mode.
There are lots of goofy 4 player racing games, but you only play those once or twice

Ha, I forgot about Virtua Tennis. That game was the shit. We played that 4-way for a good while.

My friend used to always pick one of the extra characters that looked like an 80s pornstar that wore white pants. We called him "Pants"... that guy would fall down diving for balls constantly. Terrible.

There is also the tank tennis racket.
One we were playing and I selected a custom character and it had the tank as a racket. every time he hit you'd hear "KLOIN". We all laughed about it.

Thanks for all your tips so far.
I totally forgot about Virtua Tennis 2.
Bust a Move and Tetris 4D are great as well.
Is there a Puyo Pop with 4-Player Mode?
Fever is just for two players, right?

Quake 3 arena was the best multiplayer experience on the Dreamcast, but its not exactly 'casual' its fast and bloody so its not really a fun game for kids but its brilliant for anyone seeking an fps thrill + the game AI isn't bad either, stick a few Xero's in there with railguns and your sorted.

Exciting as it gets. Virtua Tennis 2 is essential.

Indeed there is (yep, it's 4-player). I own that game too, but I didn't suggest it because I thought it was pretty uncommon. Apparently not the case. Pretty good price on that one too.

Success! They love it.
They played Giga Wing 2 the most oO
But srsly, you can't watch them play.
It's like credit feeding taken to the next level: life feeding.
They spawn, bomb, die, repeat.
Virtua Tennis 2 doesn't appeal to them as they think tennis is boring.
They played Capcom Vs SNK 2, too.
One of the guys almost beat me ^_~
Boy, today was fun.
I played Sega Tetris with our psychologist for a long time, too ^^

Jockel:Really? That sucks. PSO doesn't require much to even get started, and getting started is all you need.

Diabollokus: OP didn't exactly ask for an offline multiplayer game specifically, and the already given hint is a bit vague. Also, read his last sentence.

I know. ;_; But that applies to every game. People say the same for shmups.

I also had the impression that the entertainment of a coherent audience was at stake. This thread could get crazy if we start talking about non multiplayer dreamcast experiences though. REZ could be solution if TC's penultimate line is true.
