Used to.
Spend too much time with the Wii version of Opera though. Sheer laziness. Might improve when I build a new PC in a few months, but I doubt it.
Up or down with the arrow of autocompletion? It's today's toilet seat of domestic tranquility in these parts. The PC is the urinal she grew up using, iTunes is the turd on the cake.

If I'm not in class, not eating, and not hanging out with my friends, I'm on my computer, which comes down to many, many hours each day. Too much? Maybe, I don't care really. What do I spend so much time doing? Checking gaming sites/forums, playing games (right now mostly TF2)...that's about it.

Nice complimentary topic to my latest what Ed has played thread.
Going into this new semester I don't think I'll be fooling around with computer games (or MAME, or whatever) all that much (partly because I don't really like using my laptop all that much). I'm pretty interested in my subjects and I think (and hope and pray) that I've gotten most all of the FPS shooty / crappy games out of the way for a while.
I am interested to see more than a handful of FPS and other games coming out sometime (soon / eventually), but I think I've finally hit the eye of the storm: Nothing much that I want to play, or can play for now; money + a 8800 GTS can be restricting if you want to talk about, say, Crysis, which I don't care about much anyway for now.
I think the only games I am destined to play soon are Battlefield Heroes and possibly Myst Online: Restoration Experiment ($50/year though, sheesh).

Way too much time, yes. Laptops are an evil, time stealing invention.

WOW. One hour is almost nothing.jpj wrote:i'm at about 1 hour a day, but i'm of the opinion that anything per day is not great.
I´m a victim of links. Read this, read that, these comments, that bit of news... There is just tons of shit on the net each new hour. I recently realized that it doesn´t really satisfy me, though, and I could easily check most sites once a week without missing too much stuff. To me the internet is one big glossy magazine that´s hard to put down (even though most of it is boring).
It doesn´t help that I am at home most of the time due to working on my illustration stuff for my classes here.
On the other hand, I DO enjoy it pretty often, so I decided to surf as long as it´s obviously interesting and fun, and stop when I realize that I´m just procrastinating. In any case, I at least have the excuse to brush up my English comprehension and writing, which is teh uber-pwnage.
I´m just making sure to not start with stuff like instant messaging or MMOs, basically anything that distracts me even more.
I always thought of buying one as my next machine, but then I thought that if I can be online in bed it would get completely out of hand. So far being uncomfortable after three hours of sitting on a chair is a good reminder to take a breakSkykid wrote:Laptops are an evil, time stealing invention.

Approximately 14-16 hours per day, 8 of which is at work. Ultimately, most of my hobbies involve using computer as a medium, so there's not much to do about it. I don't consider anything using TV instead (consoles, movies, etc.) a better alternative, it's pretty much the same after all.
This is still too much, though, and I'm already experiencing the consequences, so I try to go out with friends once in a while. But currently, STGT is in the way. :)

while i am still concerned about my brain melting, i think with a PC/laptop staring at a screen for that many hours is gonna really fuck up my/your eyesight - moreso than, say, watching a television screen that's on the other side of the room.
RegalSin wrote:Videogames took my life away like the Natives during colonial times.
Assuming the TV is LCD-based or it has a 100Hz+ refresh rate, it should be less harmful for the eyes, but otherwise the difference is pretty negligible concerning both the eyesight problem and the brain melting. Regarding the latter, the only way to not let this happen is gradually substituting PC/TV-derived hobbies by going outside and, say, riding a bike or doing some other healthy thing. Simply depriving yourself from watching the screen won't change much, it seems…

Point taken, but if thats true wouldn't the OP know that already. Blurry eye sight, arthritis in the wrists and headaches are all simple symptoms to look out for. The body will give warning signs before any major issues happen.moozooh wrote:It's actually a health concern. I mess on my laptop on my bed alot leaning on my elbow, my elbow skin on my right elbow is quite tough compared to the left one

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
it sort of is a health-related question. but also one of time-comsumption. maybe i could have rephrased it: how much of your time on the internet is productive, and how much is aimless meandering?
i'm glad i'm not the only one with issues about wasting time (check those polls!). i don't go on the laptop at all over the weekends, so i guess that's something...

i was on the computer all day from about 7:30PM untl three am this morning the only time i stoped was to go to my mates to hang out and catch up. Every time I went on this page I saw this thread and said to myself *oooh been a bit long I should pack in for the evening* I did this about 6 times. so yeah I do have a problem and other than feeling really rough this morning I dont have any quibbles as I would only be watching shit TV and atleast with this I come away thinking I enjoyed chatting to X person or I sold a shirt today rather than oh I watched 4 episodes of the simpsosn and I passed 2 hours by.
