Gripe about Ibara

Post by dpful »

Bomb on Ibara, less cool than all bombs in Garegga, which are less cool than bomb in Gun Frontier. Why?

Also, some random dumb graphics that are stylistically old school, but not cool.
1. Trail of "big bomb" looks like an undulating string of mushrooms- wtf?
2. Bombs look stupid, plus slowdown to show off the stupidness.
3. Waving clouds on cloud level, look very cool, but also just old school and wierd- not the best cloud treatment... better for fires and warp zones.
4. The art direction is a cross between steam-punk and D&D fairyland fantasy. I think they kind of missed the mark and ended up in the middle. Garegga and Gun Frontier are finer in that aspect.
5. Where's all the destructible backgrounds??

Everything else about the game= Awesome/just amazing. I love it.
I just don't see how you could make so many things worse than the previous? Give me a break.

Default bomb is pretty akin to Silver Sword bomb in Garegga. Otherwise Type D and C are pretty good.

Try everywhere pardon Stage 4. Otherwise it's barely different from Garegga with regards to destructible scenery.

I agree although I don't mind the look. Garegga and Gun Frontier both have a singular art idea: military/realistic. Ibara does spin a bit of fantasy and steam punk but, I guess that was a way to include the story of the Rose sisters or something. Bottom line, if you dislike Ibara's art direction you'll love Pink Sweets.

Its old school because its a homage to the identical looking Gun Frontier cloud section!

Everywhere, but they made it so you can destroy the background objects with your main shot as well as your bomb. It makes it so you have to pick your shots more carefully so you can nail them with your bomb instead.

Pretty sure there are actually a handful of large ships in the background of Stage 4 you can bomb. Dunno if they are worth points or not though.

I think Gain's bomb looks better than the Type D style bombs to be honest but I like all of the other bombs a hell of a lot more anyway. Plus Ibara got the destruction effects down really well so it feels more satisfying to bomb stuff than Garegga to me.

My biggest gripe with the graphics in Ibara is that they didn't make any of the explosions transparent or anything, and similarly don't layer objects properly. Explosions covering up where medals are, or roses and other items getting in the way of seeing what items/enemies are coming your way is really obnoxious.
