Battle Voices: Yay or nay?

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I think i'm the only person I know who genuinely HATES battle voices. I hate the "huh huh ha!", and I hate the magic spell chanting in RPGs. I just hate it all. I like some things, like the death cries in Bionic Commando Rearmed, and some voices for special moves, or when you get hit.

But holy crap, the migranes come in whenever they just start cutting loose every time I start mashing the buttons. Makes me go search for the options to turn down voices or sound effects.

It basically ruins Nintendo games for me(thanks N, for not having any options at all). "ha ha wahoo whaoo!". blah

Question is, does anyone else have problems with these things too? I never really hear anyone complain about it, excpet myself, and family members (turn that shit down!).

I prefer the option to turn them off, but if the rest of the game is good enough I'll just grumble and bear it.

Battle voices are cool, though it's better when they actually converse instead of just saying "Rock you!" a million times.

Lol, this must be my inner wap trying to push it's way out, but I loved the voices in Tales of Phantasia on the Snes. I even enjoyed the battle voices on the english version of Grandia (2nd best game evar, yo)

Final Fantasy Tactics has some cool death cries. Everytime you kill someone there's an exaggerated "AHHHHHHHH" scream. Love it. On the other hand, MMX for PSP drives me nuts everytime X uses any special weapon.

I usually don't like them in English, but I usually don't mind them in Japanese. There is just something about hearing something in ones native language over and over again that makes one want to either smack someone or puke. But in another language, such sound clips become mostly inert, and can even have a sort of musical quality. Of course there are limits. I would have liked Elena in Grandia 2 better if she had kept her kuchi wo tojita.

Agreed, battle voices are stupid, annoying, and unrealistic. I turn them down when I can, always.

Not just the move naming and all that, but the "huh huh" and whatever. Think of Devil May Cry 4, and the "HA HA HA, SLAM DUNK!" and you'll get what i'm talking about.

I don't care for them at all. A lot of folks like 'em, but I just find 'em to be annoying. I think they should just always have an option to turn them down. Like Namco, Nippon Ichi, and Tecmo does. Then everyone is happy.

I really think it comes from when I played from a time when there weren't any battle voices at all. Except the SF II voices, really. I guess I just like how it used to be, in this one respect.

I do prefer Japanese over English, if I have to hear the move naming. It does sound less repetitive and more cool whenever it's not in your native language. However the Japanese really go for broke whenever they do the rest of the battle voices "HOOYA! HA HA!". I can just imagine some small asian fellow just belting it out in a booth whenever I hear that.

This was one of the pitfalls of learning Japanese for me. I could suddenly tell how retarded those battle voices really sound.

Actually, pretty much the same thing happened with hentai. That's some embarrassingly stupid shit.

There were battle voices since Berzerk, and maybe even earlier.

I don't like battle voices, gratuitious panting (do you imitate something that sounds like fiece bear sex when you fight in real life?), and SHPLOINK!-type of sounds when jumping. Games like Super Metroid did it the best: the sound effects are short when they need to be short, and awesome when they need to be awesome. No annoying effects aside from the low energy beeping, too.

"WAAAAAAAUGH!!!" "SQUEE~"

If the voices don't suck, I don't care.

They were in the arcade version of Rygar too. Thing is, on home consoles, it was mighty rare.

Now don't get me wrong, I like voices in games. I just don't like the voices that everytime you press a button you get a yell. Drives me crazy.

I hate them more than any other sound ever.
What's awesome soundtrack and booming explosions for when you can't hear them through some retarded child screaming same thing over and over?

And this also sums up what i think about anime.

EDIT: and 95% of dance music.
