XRGB-2 Problem - Somewhat Solved
XRGB-2 Problem - Somewhat Solved
See updates a bit down.
I'm using a Sony Bravia lcd, the very last model available. (KDL32M4000) Not every console I have seem to be working well with the unit. Any help appreciated.

What Dave K. means is have you tried your XRGB-2 with a traditional CRT-based VGA monitor?
It is highly recommended to get such a Japanese 21-in SCART cable setup as such both video signals and audio are piped through that speciality cable setup. ^_~
Or you could get a Euro SCART cable and get it re-wired to Japanese RGB spec.
I'm using an XRGB-2 with both a traditional CRT-based PC monitor and 32" widescreen LCD TV monitor (with VGA input picture screen set to 4:3 mode). Works like a charm. ^_~
Note: if you do use the XRGB-2 for an extended amount of time on 120v AC, the A/C adapter tends to get quite warm/hot and the graphical display might get erractic at times due to long time of usage. Limit how much time it is used/powered-up as a precaution is my word of advice.

Updates.
(Keep in mind that I only have shitty cables to try the thing out so far. I just want to know if it works and all.)
PS2 works fine through composite, but obviously looks like shit.
DC works through s-video and also passing through the powered off xrgb2 unit through vga.
Which makes me believe the 3 inputs are okay.
Yet...
Saturn (s-video) and MD (composite) - image appears for 4-5 seconds, then goes away and tv loses signal. It doesn't say invalid input, but "invalid format" after all.
Is there something I must power up first? Is the order of things important? It seems the ps2/dc work no matter what I do...
@Dave: Yeah, the menu comes up and I can cycle through inputs. I have no way of testing the thing on a traditional CRT monitor because I don't have one at the moment.

Well, I tried the unit at my brother's on many different setups and it worked with everything flawlessly: 2 different LCD TVs, an old CRT monitor and a LCD monitor. The consoles that were sketchy/didn't work on my gaming TV worked there. I think I'll try my luck with RGB cables (21 pin) and if I still have no luck on my display I'll have to resell the thing. Quite retarded it wouldn't work 100% on MY setup of all others.

Hard-core console and arcade PCB hobbyists have such a fabled XRGB-2 in their stash. Don't regret selling it as they're damn hard to come by these days. And please do get some Japanese 21-pin RGB cables for your consoles. The XRGB-2 works great with arcade PCBs/Superguns as well. ^_~KindGrind wrote:Well, I tried the unit at my brother's on many different setups and it worked with everything flawlessly: 2 different LCD TVs, an old CRT monitor and a LCD monitor. Even better, just modify your XRGB-2 to accept euro scart which is what I did. It's very simple to do and you'll save money in the end. Scart cables are definitely cheaper and easier to get than the japanese 21-pin cables.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:

I may hold on to it. I'm sad it doesn't do anything on aything I have at home. The only monitor acceptinga VGA input is my gaming TV, on display on which the xrgb2 shows it has something against the consoles that I play the most. (MD+Sat) May try my luck with japanese 21-pin RGB cables +SCART to 21 pin adapter, but then again, I don't really want to shell out more $ and no result...
Pissed it works on other really subpar monitors/TVs... and not _the_ TV. Anyways, any developments I'll keep you posted. Back to to playing Contra: Hard Corps JP (gotta like the 6 extra "lives") the way I played it 15 years ago.... through glorious composite inputs!

EDIT:Typing.

wait.... you aren't using RGB with the XRGB now?!? it's really a waste NOT to use RGB.
put it this way, if their was no way to use RGB or component and I was stuck with s video or composite on the thing..... I would HAVE to make room for a true low res display, and I have NO room for one.
get a saturn scart cable and rewire the cable, they are cheap and the mod is really easy. hell send it to me and I'll do it for you.
hmm, I dunno if using RGB would fix your issue though. I have mine hooked up via component to my TV using a VGA to Component transcoder.
