Cookie crumbs and baking soda are a couple of ideas that spring to mind. These are not necessarily good ideas, though. Your call.

For used arcade or movie theater type of look, I've seen such arcade tokens or loose change placed in between the control panel artwork and the control panel plexiglas covering on such American upright cabinets along with the usual movie ticket stubs inserted by the change as well. Gives the control panels such an interesting type of aesthetics not found elsewhere. Might not be your cup of tea but is a suggestion/thought to consider.

Perhaps a nice Japanese arcade manufacturer's ashtray and some eye-catchy anime inspired artwork to spice things up works wonders.

You might recall that American Greetings (or was it Hallmark?) that came out with some cool Pac-Man themed sticker sheets back in the early 1980's. You could try get hold of some brand new sheets and stick them on for that cool retro-arcade look that you couldn't replicate any other way.

If you could find someone who does freelance custom arcade-styled control panel artwork, that is another option/idea to mull over. ^_~

I'll have to admit, the first thing that crossed my mind when I read the title was definitely pubic hair.
