DLP Projector for Arcade video output-

Post by Battlesmurf »

Alrighty. Getting ahold of an RGB-> NTSC jamma convertor. I'd like to run it to a projector in the arcade room. Basically- all I have is Low Res stuff- but I could be able to get ahold of something high res some day.

That in mind- I want the cheapest/best projector I can given my situation (probably don't need 1080P or super fancy features). Anybody have suggestions for this?

I have a Toshiba DLP (forgot the exact brand name), its gota few years on its neck and it is absoluteley brilliant.

my advice is to shop around, perhaps you have a hi-fi store or something near you where you can go and check em out for yourself, when i was buying mine i found that some projectors make a hellova lot of noise for instance (almost x360 loud in some cases!), you dont want that.

others become practically invisible as soon as a ray of light enters the room.. that kinda sucks too.

good luck :)

any update on your projector quest?

I've been obsessing over projectors for a while due to size of screen VS mobility, and finally got one used for a nice price, a Sanyo PLV-Z4. I'm constructing a portable screen made from blackout cloth (for curtains) while waiting for it to arrive.. it is a 3LCD though, and not DLP.
I'm hoping to primarily run my PC and x360, along with the XRGB-2 into it for some super-chunky pixelized gaming at 110" / 280cm (covering an entire wall/closet of my room

This - half a year later!

I'm starting to consider a supergun/MAME and projector (heck, possibly even the 360) setup as an alternative to the standard old TV. I've searched the forums a bit, but there's no real definitive statement on how well projectors work for gaming. Any word on this?

Sorry- hadn't seen this in a bit. Honestly- the Benq worked great for mame- didn't see much/any lag (though I am not an expert nor do I use it alot). I had to use an XRGB for some pcbs with the Sanwa adapter- but it does 99% of the stuff out there pretty crisp.

Dreamcast w/ vga is flipping amazing, though. MVSC2 with a 100" screen is neat as all get go!
