Psyvariar 2 DC quick question

Is the game "playable" without a stick? I mean... Is high scoring remotely possible without one? Any of you do it?

I can play fine with my d-pad, I have no real issues continuously rolling. I can't say I score really high but I don't play it that much; even so, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to with a pad.

I played it a lot on the pad when it first came out. trick is to keep moving.

once you spin, you just have to press in one direction to continue rolling, even if you don't move. this applies e.g. if you are at the bottom of the screen, you can press down and you will still spin, but not move.
the ps2 version even has a rolling button.

I recommend a good DC arcade stick such as the DC Agetech Stick to boost up your scores on DC Psyvariar 2. It can be further modded with Sanwa or Seimitsu arcade parts for a world-class Japanese arcade spec joystick layout. Since Ascii made this particular arcade stick for the JPN market, and under the Agetech brand name for the USA market, it's one of the best arcade sticks to get for the DC console.

If playing such DC shmups with an expensive Japanese arcade stick setup ain't your cup of tea, then a regular DC D-pad will suffice just fine as well. It's all about what you feel most comfortable playing with to score consistantly and make some improvements as you slowly get better. The old adage makes sense: Practice makes perfect (even for such Superplay sessions as well). Watching the Psyvariar 2 Superplay is pretty amazing with all the usual Success trademarked bullet patterns and scattershot thrown at you. ^_~

Thanks for the input.

I played the DC version last year and liked it.

I bought the ps2 version and felt the autobuzz button took the heart of the game away. The superplay DVD the games comes with it is, on the other hand, completely amazing. I did sell the game last week to buy the DC version, mostly because I can now play my DC through VGA and also -mostly- because my ps2 had trouble with blue (cd-rom) games.

Will buy a stick if I ever find one close to my place - the shipping on these things is not really funny!
