So Paletweb seems to have gotten another shipment of Touhou games in since they're no longer listed as sold out. While they were gone, I've been browsing YJapan and was suprised at how high prices were. I assumed they had since gone out of print and demand drove prices up. But now Paletweb has them again for ~$15 apiece, which doesn't jive well with this.
I'm a little suspicious about the authenticity of Paletweb's merch right now. Can anyone vouch for them? If so I'll probably grab the whole set while they're in stock (except PCB which is sold out still/again).
EDIT: jesus christ typos

They're authentic. I bought Touhous from them before, all went perfect. Auction sites always have some games listed for more than retail price, just to make a profit out of people who don't look far enough.

Their account management is very ropey, but I’ve brought stuff from them without any issues. Each time they've thrown in some free items as well, though nothing amazing and sometimes a bit suspect. Last time I got a load of touhou bookmarks with various characters, including a naked Tewi with a plaster over her fairy cave. Classy.

For clarity: I ordered MoF, SWR and SSiB, and they threw the Tewi thing in for free. Honestly it’s a lot more innocent than you probably imagined, but it still was rather weird to find in the box.GrimoreLibrarian wrote:WHY WOULD YOU WANT THAT! They are fine for me. Got a hold of a used copy of Virtual-ON and Omega Boost in perfect conditions with spines and all. Moreover, the Virtual-ON came with the Sega Saturn little guides 8 and 9 (two small catalogues completely in moonspeak) and it still had that card/warranty thingie, also in moonspeak.
I preordered Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and bought Diadra Empty from them. All arrived in perfect conditions and really fast. mmm, speaking of DE, what a nice game.
The only real downsides I found are the site design and the engrish but if you can get over that and place an order only if you are REALLY sure, then it's ok. Guess this also applies to any online store. You always have to be sure...
And maybe I got lucky? I got a neat Advent Cirno pin but that was back in February.
Edit: Holy shit!!!! Did I read well? Is that guy charging 5k yen for an opened copy of EoSD? What the fuck? The game costs like 1.2k yen brand new! Jeez.

To be fair he's not "charging" anything; the 38 people who bid on it are setting the price.
That's why I was so incredulous: it's not some ebay seller pricing something high and waiting for the one idiot who will think "DAMN I NEED TO GRAB THIS," it's Japanese people fighting for who can buy EoSD for triple price. I figured that if they're still being made and sent to people like Palet, they'd be easy enough to come across in Japan that the price would be more... reasonable.

It's either something special from Comiket or, like Dr. House says, "they are IDIOTS".
Or it's a trap!
mmm, perhaps they are so damn impatient to wait for C74 they don't mind paying almost as much as a full 'commercial' game for it... I scanned White Canvas and in the 26 pages of Touhou crap the music cds from ZUN seemed to be the only ones available. I'm fearing a lot of speculations/madness to get original copies of the games given the non-stop popularity of the series.
urgh, so much crap but not a trace of the games that spawned it. It's somehow infuriating when I hear IOSYS this, IOSYS that... Go play the games, god dammit. But they won't go past stage 2 and forget of stgs altogether for their next shitty jRPG or generic brown FPS.
