DX - Better game, cuz funner scoring, and more long-term playability, cuz three different game modes.

PCB is also about three-times more expensive than Raiden II, but it's totally worth it.

DX, because I don't know of a RII machine anywhere nearby. Also, DX was released by itself, so there must be something there.

The 411 on the Seibu Kaihatsu produced Raiden II PCB...

For antron,

If you like the classic gameplay that Raiden II PCB offers with no extras, then it would be better to pick up that one. Of course, the back-up battery version of Raiden II/Raiden DX PCB functionality is worthless. When it did work, it would, naturally, save your high scores upon powering down for the night.

I've heard of some fellow shmuppers having multiple PCBs of Raiden II and/or Raiden DX that have some corrupted graphical issues in each one and wish to own such a PCB that is 100% working and flawless. That would be one's goal to score such a PCB if you want one problem-free from the get-go.

--------------------------
The JPN region Raiden II PCB does have a later released variant known as Raiden II "New Version" PCB released in 1996 from Seibu Kaihatsu themselves but with crappy sound issues and smaller PCB footprint (in terms of size). My recommendation, buy the original Raiden II PCB and
you'll be just fine.

There is also Seibu Kaihatsu's 1996 Raiden DX "New Version" PCB variant as well. Again, stick with the original PCB version and you're good to go as the latter version is plagued with sound issues as well.
--------------------------

There is something cool about owning/playing a Raiden II/Raiden DX PCB compared to the latter PSX port releases of the same name. Original arcade hardware demands that one has the proper arcade cabinet (or Supergun setup) to play it on for sentimental reasons.

The drastic leap from Raiden to Raiden II PCB in terms of gameplay and graphical overhaul was Seibu Kaihatsu's "ace in the hole". They knew that they had such a popular shmup series in the making if they could make such an arcade shmup PCB title that eclipses it's intial PCB release offering.

Good luck, antron, on your search for a flawless Raiden II or Raiden DX PCB. Or why not get them both? ^_~
