Favorite Gaming Accomplishments
I thought it might be interesting to see what some of our favorite gaming accomplishments are. They don't have to be great accomplishments, but just something you found memorable.
I remembered this one today. I absolutely loved Mechwarrior 2 when I got it for PC (1st generation Pentium), so much so that I would willingly put it into wire-frame mode just to get a playable frame rate on some missions. One day I finally made it to the last ranking match of the Jade Falcon clan, which placed the player in a Kit Fox (one of the lightest mechs) against a 70 ton Marauder. A veritable David vs. Goliath. By sheer luck, I managed to peek around a corner and do enough damage to blow off one of the Marauder's legs which left him a sitting duck for me to blast away on. One of the most satisfying matches in the whole game.

Re: Favorite Gaming Accomplishments
I'm kinda proud of having beaten Super Contra, although when I get the ALL (two-loop) clear that'll be even better.
Goldeneye - every cheat, many of them twice (i.e. invisibility, which is the second hardest one to get), and in recent years I've been undefeated in all my matches playing with people ('in real life;' I'd probably get smoked if I tried netplay).
Contra 4's challenge mode - turned out I was feeling very comfortable with this by the time I finished up the last three challenges.
What else...every inch I've gotten into Out Zone, I guess.

Just finishing Shinobi (PS2) on Super difficulty, with Hotsuma. In truth I'm not that proud, because the game lets you restart on boss fights as often as you want. But I was just glad to kill that wanker and then work on being able to consistently one-shot him from there.

The first time I AA'd PSMO doubles, my first AAA in DDR (Last Message), my first 9 foot AAA (Summer Love), my first AAA in IIDX (5.1.1. lol), um, I'm trying to think of something that doesn't involve a Bemani game... one time I got a really good score (for me, anyway) on DOJ and I ran around the house a couple of times all exitedly but I don't remember what the score was...
Oh, the first time I got to level five on Dodonpachi, that was a good one.

Beating F-Zero GX on its hardest difficulty without losing my mind.

Beating Battletoads for NES. Even if I ever finally clear Dangun Feveron, I think beating Battletoads will always be my favorite gaming memory. I got it when I was about 10 and didn't beat it until I was like 19 or 20. It was kind of cool to do something that I remember from childhood but thought was impossible.
It was kind of scary how quickly it came back to me after not playing it for, like, 8 years. This Onion article is all too true.
One other thing that article reminded me of: when I first got back into Mike Tyson's Punch-Out (when I was 18 or so), I still had the Tyson code memorized, which I probably hadn't used in like 8 years. It came back to me as I was entering it, like, I wasn't quite sure what it was but I got it on the first try. Creepy.

201 hours on my FFTA.
My friend has clocked up at least 4000 hours on all his FF run troughs combined. He just replays them over and over again. He has been playing since FF7 came out.

That's the way it was with me in Double Dragon2:The Revenge. Hadn't played it since I was 6 or 7 years old, then I took back up with it about a year ago and now I've 1LC it on Supreme Master.Davey wrote:Beating Battletoads for NES. I did great so much water and milk that I threw up when I was little.
Back in the day I could go very far in Kid Chameleon. Last time I played, I didn't make it to the end, but I kept note of the level name.
Years later, I googled to find out which level it was, and it turns out I was 2 levels short of reaching the last boss.
So yeah, I'm proud that I reached that far, but ashamed that I never finished it.

1. 1ccing Metal Slug without using continues. My first 1cc ever. All of the other Metal Slugs had insane difficulties which were made specifically for credit feeding, but the original game was tame.
I didn't see any other games at the time (97) that were anywhere as graphically detailed as this awesome game.
2. Beating Earth Defense Force 2017 on Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardest and Inferno. The Genocide gun wasn't worth it (it doesn't work on bosses) but the game was overall a really enjoyable experience.
3. 500 or more hours on Disgaea. The original game was enjoyable on the PS2, but they released it for the PSP and it was so, so much better. This time around, you were able to skip battle animations, and this made everything flow faster. I still haven't maxed out my main character, but I'm very close to doing so.
The only thing stopping me is that whenever I try to turn on my PSP, it's dead. Otherwise, I'd definitely play it some more. I've maxed all transmigration levels on my main character though, and that's a difficult process in itself.
4. 960/1000 on Dead Rising. Yeah, I've gotten all Dead Rising achievements (including PP Collector, Transmissionary, Gourmet, Frank the Pimp and Saint) except for 5 Day Survivor and 7 Day Survivor. Disc Read Errors have so far prevented me from getting the other two.
5. 1cc'd PCB, IN and MoF Lunatic using various characters and strategies. I even made a fully detailed IN spellcard guide over at the Touhou forums.

I can´t imagine the emotional dents this must have caused. I´ve read a story of someone beating this game as a kid, and getting a Game Genie for christmas two days later, and he threw a shitfit when he discovered inifite lives codes for that gameDavey wrote:Beating Battletoads for NES.

This reminds me of the early AVGN in his Karate Kid (NES) review, and that really stuck in my head:Never_Scurred wrote:Beating F-Zero GX on its hardest difficulty without losing my mind.
"I hate this game. But why am I playing it? Well, that´s a question everyone has asked themselves and they all have the same reason: Because you´re angry and you wanna win. You wanna beat the Nintendo. But the cold fact is that nobody cares but you."
I remember F-Zero GX as "motion-sickness rocket to the groin simulation game". Very cool, but when it came to deciding whether I want to keep playing even when it stopped being fun just for the sake of it or just giving up, I chose the latter, which goes for most of my gaming nowadays.
The only thing that kind of might be a little achievement *maybe* is beating that sun boss in Astro Boy Omega Factor on Hard (western version, obv). The game really takes a very sharp spike in the difficulty from Normal, and boy did I ever feel the stress hormones pumping through my veins. I guess that´s the "flow" of the hardcore HARDCORE gamers - the extreme stress and anger while trying to overcome obstacles, and the sudden relief when you get it done. However, I just stopped playing after that because I didn´t want to ruin my mental balance with a GBA game.

Also: Gametime played is NOT an achievement.

Maybe some people set retarded goals like "I want to play this game 1000 hours"Elixir wrote: And as far as I know, goals are wherein achievements rest.
My favourite achievement isn't really related to playing, but being one of the beta testers for Thievery UT, and making it into the credits as the person who ran the dedicated server during testing

If you wanna talk gameplay, barely losing to the guy who was ranked #1 on the Ultimate Descent ladder was pretty high up on it. I think the final score was 10-8. I put up a hell of a fight that day.
Of course him being #1 at the time was some kind of fluke cuz he wasn't one of the top elite. But anyway, I digress ...

Getting probably the fastest time trial race ever on Wipeout 2097 on Valparaiso (think that's what it was called - the jungle track.)
Wish I could remember what it was now, but in the end it was just me and another guy racing ghosts with about 10 people watching, and when I made three perfect laps with the qirex and shaved 1.5 seconds off of his 'unbeatable' time, he just said "that's it, I can't beat that," and gave in.
Ah, the smell of victory.
