People affected by credit crunch!
I don't want details per se. Just a yes or no. You can volunteer information if you so wish.
So far for me, its made no difference since i've still got my job and got a pay rise last December. So far I have little to moan about.
What about you?

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Not yet. I'll know shortly when looking for loans for school though.
Feedback will set you free.

Same. I work in an impatient pharmacy and the census has been fairly steady. Financially, I haven't been affected directly since I don't really have many responsibilities outside of a phone bill and rent. So far i've managed to put away close to $3k (or 3 Cave pcbs in shmup terms) to pay for the next two semesters so I won't know how bad its gonna get until I start looking for loans. Of course, i'll be working two days a week so we'll see how the crunch will affect ramen noodle prices.antron wrote:I'm in healthcare. People are still getting sick, maybe even sicker.

Hahah....We don't get to throw stuff at customers since we mainly deal with airheaded nurses and bitchass physicians who can't write for shit. Seriously, I wonder if the pharmacist have to attend a class for learning how to read the orders. The chicken scratch looks not that different from a little child. That, and the nurses who call FOR EVERYTHING and think we are supposed to pull meds out of our asses just for them. Yes, we are the impatient pharmacy.indstr wrote:Dude remind me not to go there for medicine..Never_Scurred wrote:impatient pharmacy

I know this post is a little old.. but with everything that's being going on over the last couple of weeks seems like it is pretty relevant. Well anyways it is to me as I work in IT in the financial services sector and my company has ceased new business origination... doesn't give me much hope for this job.
Anyone else being effected by the crisis in the money markets? Everythign just seems to be hitting us.
My Electricity and gas has gone up from £80/month ($145) to £110 ($200) and I just live ina regular small UK house.
Petrol takes at least £400 month but our jobs require us to have cars to get there as public transport doesn't cover the areas or the time of day needed.
I have to pay £45/month just to get water. Yes I am greateful for water supply and know it costs a lot to have the infrastructure in place, but £45/month! Make the water companies state owned, free to the UK individual and then just cut down subsidies on some other waste (I know of a UK council department that spend thousands of pounds replacing all the files in their filing cabinets with ones of the same colour as the manager didn't like the cabinets looking messy).
Food bills are expensive, we have gone from shopping at Sainsbury's three years ago to Tesco two years ago and now we are shopping at Asda (which actually I should have done along time ago as it seems to be cheaper and have pretty good stuff).
Fortunately I have 2 years left before my low fixed rate mortgage deal ends. At least that is a bit of good news for me...
anyways... rant over...
(at least with job takign up less time I can play more games)

You know what's funny ?
While all these rightists always scream how bad socialism is they seem perfectly happy that a very socialistic action saved their sorry greedy butts.
Banks in the US bailed out by the government wit tax money, banks in the Netherlands bailed out by the government with tax money.
Makes you wonder where they, all of a sudden, get such amounts of cash.
Anyway, don't ever expect this to be the other way around.
Capitalist pigs won't save anything unless it brings them more cash.
Also it makes you wonder about the whole capitalistic system they say we live in. It seems that if you're a company you get treated more socially then if you're just a person. Or does it have more to do with government friends being afraid of losing their money ?
Anyway, capitalism is a big farce as has been proved again.
The whole system comes down to everyone working their buts off to be able to eat and when the shit hits the fan only those on top get to keep everything they got and get some extra too while the rest can feel the crisis.
And still, people defend the system as if it's the best.
But let's just write that down to as if they don't know any better.
Happy starving days everyone !

Someone I used to work for said to me that "it is worse for people who earn millions per year to lose their jobs than it is for you" yeah... right, I feel really bad for them witht heir 3 houses and 'weekend cars' and the fact that they won't be able to have 4 houses next year and a horse for the kids.
Don't get me wrong, I have come across some very intelligent people who are worth their weight in gold and deserve everything they have wored for. But then you see people with the gift of the gab and have talked themselves into these jobs and the money that goes with it. You see the damage they do to the people around them, the companies they wrok for, the shareholders etc and then wonder how they ever got away with it.
I'm not really sure where I stand on my views on capitalism, socialism etc as I have never really though about it until recently. I am just content to do my job well, get paid and go home. It's nice to get paid an OK wage that lets me by PCBs and toys etc, but it is most certainly not the be all and end all.

It's harder for a specialist that makes a good salary ($100+k a year) but isn't "rich". That's not a fantastic salary, but it's a good one. Depending on your city, that might not take you far though. Once you're making that much, switching jobs takes time, as you have to find a better fit. If nobody's hiring, you're double-fucked.

The biggest problem hitting the UK imo is the house prices. In the last 2 years people have been getting mortgages for ridiculous amounts of money. I keep telling everyone to let house prices crash and screw the people that bought in the past 2 years because using schemes to keep prices high, It will just create a bigger problem 5 years from now when there are more people wanting a house but can't afford it.
The thing that worries me about the bailouts from the Govs is that the people with the biggest rakes will benefit the most. They are the one's that should be eliminated from any help imo. The money needs to be pumped into the bottom of the sector and work its way up. Not the other way around.
The other problem is that the system is being abused. There are too many unproductive people in the world making a royal mint and too many productive people being out of a job. You tell me how that is supposed to work?
I watch these programs lately that say house prices will stabilize and people should just hold onto them. I have never heard so much crap in my life. As things get worse in every other sector of the economy and bills get higher, how are house prices supposed to stabilize? Someones having a right bubble bath!
