Frothing demand: INFINITY!!
This looks amazing; the shots from your ship remind me very much of Ikaruga, and you can shoot in multiple directions, too!
(OT, watch MS's press conference on IGN or Gametrailers; I am VERY impressed with their line-up!)

Screenshots, Video
There's the standard purty colors that come with every game update, but this one looks especially crazy.

Have you tried to use the 360's d-pad before? It's pure garbage, almost as bad as the phat psp's.Dave_K. wrote:WTF? Analog stick only for movement? Can someone please fire the 18 year olds working on this and get some real developers!?
I do agree though, that not having the option to at least choose the d-pad or analog stick is bullshit.

Wow, this looks really nice.
I'm not a big fan of single screen shooters, but more than likely i'll be snagging this. SIE and now this.

This looks more like a Gaplus sequel, only with the Galaga name for marketing reasons.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
So what they have done is swapped bullet patterns for enemy patterns. If you want to reach people outside these forums I guess that is a wise choice. I've been craving more enemy patterns in shmups for a long time myself. You have to wonder at the difficulty though. Will it be hard enough? Will you have to play trough 50+ levels before the action starts to heat up? Slow enemies will trick reviewers into thinking the game is 'tactical'. Smart!
The game actually looks more Robotron-like than anything - like a non-scrolling arena shmup.

It is powerup of laser.
I love how the player sucks at it.gameoverDude wrote:This looks more like a Gaplus sequel, only with the Galaga name for marketing reasons.

The game looks amazing, and I'm especially excited considering this is from the team that did Pac Man CE, which is mindblowing.gameoverDude wrote:This looks more like a Gaplus sequel, only with the Galaga name for marketing reasons.

The real prize of this particular demonstration video, however, is watching and hearing these guys play and talk about the game. They do a hilariously bad job covering up how obviously bored they are, and the fact that none of them have any desire to play it. I love how that dude near the end reluctantly picks up the controller because no one else will, and after, literally, 15 seconds blurts out his full hackneyed Game Informer bullshit-brand review:
"I remember playing Galaga back in the day. It was totally sweet, but you've reinvented the classic faithfully, and given an old game new life. This game is totally true to the original game in every way, but adds a lot of depth that just wasn't in those old arcade games."
Comedy gold.

They won't but if Pac-Man CE is everything that you have on your memory card (I assume you bought the arcade pack), there should be enough space left for Galaga...caligvla wrote:Pac-Man Championship Edition was the only reason why I bought an Xbox 360... Now I hope they will put Galaga on Disc, I have an xbox w/o HD.
If not can I assume a 2nd memory card in slot #2 should do the trick?Necronom wrote:They won't but if Pac-Man CE is everything that you have on your memory card (I assume you bought the arcade pack), there should be enough space left for Galaga...caligvla wrote:Pac-Man Championship Edition was the only reason why I bought an Xbox 360... thanks,
Lucky for me, the game came up on Partnernet today so I got to sit down with the trial version and give it a whirl:
My initial impression is that the controls are just god-awful. I don't know what the heck they were thinking here:
RT: Fire (can be set to continuous fire so you don't have to press a button)
RS: Choose the fire direction of your options
LB: Bring your options back to default near you
I can see why the fire is on the Right Trigger if you have to use the Right Analog stick to control the options, but why is the option reset on the Left Bumper? Madness.
Gameplay-wise I can't really say much positive about it so far. I only have access to the trial version, so this isn't a fair review, but the first ten minutes of gameplay so far is uninspired and just plain boring. Enemy patterns are incredibly simple and only the "leader" ships can actually shoot at you. Out of the dozen or so games I played, I think I died once and it was totally my fault. Now, I'm sure it will ramp up, but the rate at which it ramps seems to be so slow that I'm not sure I could really get into it if the first half-hour of play is going to be challenge-free. This is a shmup for the masses, make no mistake, and hardcore players will feel left-out I fear.
The score system seems to be based entirely around shooting down the "leader" ship. Killing the leader also kills the smaller ships in formations around it and the multiplier is based around how many small ships were left when the leader was killed. Before each formation comes out, white lines telegraph their pattern so you can get into position and nail the leader. This has potential, but it ends up making it feel much more like a puzzle game than a shooter. Simply get into position, aim at the leader and soak up the points. Again, this is a trial version so I'm sure it gets more challenging, but damn, it's so SLOW to get going I just don't care to play it much more than I already have.
Graphics are passable but rather ugly, with tons of bloom to hide the simple ship models. It's like a cross between Lumines and a PSone era shmup.
Overall, I'll probably still pick this up, but it's not the series reboot that Pac-Man CE was, nor does it have the content or quality of Geometry Wars 2.
