Attending the 2008 AMOA trade arcade/pinball show?

I did not know that the Amusement Machine Operators Association is still around. They will be having a trade show in Las Vegas this time around. Sega Amusements USA based out of Elk Grove, Illinois in the USA will be attending this show... ^_~

AMOA Show

September 10 - 12, 2008

Makes me wonder what will be shown at this particular arcade amusement trade show. Will any new arcade shmup titles be shown at this show? Too bad that it isn't open to the general public like how the Japanese AOU show is. AMOA should break tradition and invite the public this time around. ^_~

I'll actually be attending the show this year. I'm not too sure what they'll have (although Sega has a few new games in development), but I'll be sure to let you know. =)

Glad to hear that a fellow shmupper is attending this year's AMOA show. I presume that photography is not allowed at these type of arcade game/pinball trade shows, right? If it is allowed, take some pics of this event. ^_~

I was wondering the same thing. I assume that pictures are not allowed to be taken, but if they are, I'll make sure that I do. =)

The AMOA show was interesting. I didn't expect too much out of it, but it was still a lot of fun.

I figured I'd just post a link to this guy's blog since he seems to cover pretty much everything video game related that was there.

I thought it was a little odd, but at the Andamiro booth they had 2 machines running Arcana Heart 2. I'm not exactly sure why. I think I saw all of two people actually playing it, but they did have them in sit down cabinets with no stools.

For the most part there wasn't anything too interesting, no shmups obviously. I did get a chance to talk to the guy at the Namco booth for a few minutes though. I think they only had 3 or 4 games and they were mostly redemption games. I asked about Tekken 6 (T5 was a big money maker for us, so we ended up importing it since there is no US release), and he said it comes down to cost, and they'd end up having to sell the machine for a lot more than they'd want to, so they didn't bring it out. He did say that they're going to have a ton of games at the IAAPA show in Orlando this November.

I found out yesterday that I'll be going to the IAAPA show as well, so it'll be interesting. I guess it's a lot like the AMOA show, but a lot bigger.

Glad to hear that you had a good time at the AMOA 2008 show. Were there any new arcade racing games shown there as well?

And did Stern show off their latest pinball machines? It's nice to get an idea of what new pinballs to stock for your arcade venue...keeps the customers and not to mention, the money, rolling in. ^_~

I miss the days when Williams used to crank out their latest pinball machines every year. It was always quite an experience to try out a brand new pinball table at the local arcades back in the early 1990's until their entire shutdown of their pinball division with the Pinball2000 series.

I wish I could have gone to a show like that when Pinball was still profitable. Anyway, thanks for the link. Always cool to read about a bunch of stuff I'll never see in real life.
