Need some advice before taking the supergun plunge.

Post by Tindalos »

So, after a couple of years of playing shooters on MAME and PS2 I've decided to buy a supergun. I've got my eyes set on a Sigma Raijin which seems to be one of the best on the market. Now, I won't be buying it yet for a month or three but I'd like to sort out a couple of issues before hand.

1) Does anyone have any experience doing business with this particular site www.neoamusement.com ?

2) Looking at their info on the Raijin (which is a bit shallow) it seems that everything is included to play regular PCBs (I'm going for Espgaluda 1 or 2 myself) without me having to buy any extra stuff (apart from a euro RGB cable). Is that correct? Motherboards and such would only have to be bought if I were to play say... Neo-Geo games or CPS II and III games right?

Oh, and finally, does the Raijin need a step down converter (since I live in europe) or does it have some kind of switch or something?

Any advice or answers would be greatly appreciated!

Now on to planning a budget with plenty of cut corners...

Unless you are living inside of a closet I would always recommend a cab over a supergun! In most cases even cheaper. the only hassle you'll have is the transportation, but there should be cabs nearby since all over the world arcades are shutting down!

My closet days are over, but still, I can't quite fit a cab in the apartment I have now. There IS space of course, but my girlfriend would have me hung, drawn and quartered. A cab is for when we buy ourselves a house. I did look around for a cab briefly though, but since Sweden never was that big on the arcade front finding a good one is pretty though.

neoamusement is kind of deceptive. They like to make it seem like you're getting original artwork with certain PCBs when really it's copied :? , but they always send the boards out, and in great condition.

You should butter up your gf with some cute arcade puzzlers PCBs such as Mr. Driller, Mr. Driller 2, Mr. Driller-G, Gunbarich, Senkyu (aka Battle Balls), Mushihime-tama, etc. and she'll want to change her mind about getting a proper arcade cabinet...there's nothing like playing your favorite arcade PCBs on such a proper Japanese cabinet. ^_~

A Supergun setup makes a fine alternative if room and or space issues are of importance...just be sure to get a decent sized 15 kHz RGB analog monitor for that true low resolution 320 x 240 arcade spec presentation. ^_~

I've promised her Mrs. Pac-Man when I get my supergun, but I didn't even think of Mr. Driller! Great idea, thanks :)

As for neoamusement not including original art with their PCBs, well, that's a bit wonky isn't it? Anyhow, I was only going to buy the sigma raijin from them so maybe I shouldn't worry that much?
