Star Wars Arcade $1700?

Post by Phil12 »

The arcade I go to is selling Star Wars Arcade for 1700 bucks. Good price for it? yes or no? I know it's pretty old...

Waaaaay too expensive. Star Wars usually go for around 750- 1k, if they are in excellent condition.

It's the one that says Star Wars Arcade on it. That's all it says.

Star Wars -- 1983 vector arcade game from Atari Games

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

For Phil12,

That Star Wars arcade game that you mention about is the 1983 Atari Games color vector-based first person shooting game. There was even an upgrade kit to convert the Star Wars upright or sit-down cabinet versions into an Empire Strikes Back full-color vector type of first person shooting game as well...

I'm not sure if the asking price of $1,700 is the going rate for such an vintage 1983 Star Wars cabinet these days -- they are a regular staple at the once-a-year Calfornia Extreme retro arcade game & pinball show.

Serious question here: Do you know this game well enough to be able to justify dropping that much cash on it?

I mean holy crap...$1700...I'm going into convulsions here thinking about how much I could pad out my collections with that sort of cash

just something to think about - I'm happy you're asking these questions because people paying too much money for games is driving up pricing for everybody

If you're talking about the Atari vector game, I'd say the price is probably too high (although good condition sit-down cabinets go for a pretty decent price last I heard.)

If you're talking about the Sega one (which I beleve ran on model 2 hardware) I seriously doubt that the game would hold enough interest to justify the space that a dedicated cabinet would require and a $1,700 investment (although the price would be more reasonable for that one.)

I wasn't going to. I just was thinking that maybe it would be a treasure worth a lot someday.
