I've downloaded my 2nd game (R-Types) right now and noticed the same as on the Castlevania I downloaded a few months back: a) you cannot turn of the screen smoothing function (the menu allows you to, but there's no difference between on and off) and b) the screen ratio is not correct 4:3, but more like 5:4.
Since I own both games as original CD versions as well, I checked back with those and indeed on both run at correct 4:3 and I can turn of the screen smoothing.
Now my question: is this a problem to *ALL* PSOne download'able games or is this a bug to a few ones only (and I had the misfortune of both my download beeing affected) ?
The PS3's running on 1080p.
PS1 Games on PS3 - PSN vs. Original CD ??
Jezus christ, the smoothing function is the dumbest thing ever. anyone who is using that is an idiot and thus not being able tp turn it off is lame.
Thanks for this warning!
i will not download any psn content.
I always thought like maybe sotn or r-types might have some bug, that is corrected with the psn download version.
I'll just get the discs, but oh wait. I have a jpn ps3, so I can only get jpn ps1 games. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Why are consumers always treated like idiots. no more. it's piracy for me from now on! I've had it!

it's somewhat handy for 3D titles, especially the PS1 3D games. 2D game on a PS3 on HD is shit regardless if you're that anal about it.Jezus christ, the smoothing function is the dumbest thing ever. anyone who is using that is an idiot and thus not being able tp turn it off is lame.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
yeah... I notice a line... like a tear on the tv for PS1 games. for 3D everything is fine.... just 2D is not really great unless it was true 480i like HnK.Oh come on, it's as good as it gets as long as you don't want/need scanline emulation.

I haven't noticed any tearing upscaled to 1080p and the scaling is much more precise and sharper than with any external videoprocessor. If there's tearing on any games then - of course - we don't even have to talk about it, it's no go. I played Metal Slug X and Gradius Gaiden recently and didn't notice anything bad though.
I noticed it on a hori shooter with vert scrolling... i noticed it via the vert scrolling. maybe the updates have changed it.
