I have this thing, but was never aware of that it was a medical condition, with its own name etc. Now, thanks to wiki.

I often get to see them, when I wake up in the morning and look through the window. They slowly move from the top to bottom of my view, and by closing eyes, there's a way to bring these up a bit again :P

I get that, I never knew what they were - always assumed it was just dirt in the eye fluid. I notice it much more when tired, or during summer with the hayfever season when I tend to end up rubbing them a bit.

I asked the 3 people who sit on this desk cluster, we all get it.
Edit: everyone in the office gets it. I wouldn't be too bothered..

I started getting them many years ago, particularly bad when there is lots of light (for eg: outside on a sunny day)

Become so used to it that I never notice them now though, or maybe they've cleared up somewhat and I haven't noticed, I dunno.

I had one right in front of my pupil a couple of months ago. Was super annoying, and I actually got an appointment with the eye doctor. Then the day I went to the doctor it suddenly disappeared. :D

First I thought that this is a thread about someone fed up with dead bodies floating constantly to their beach (illegal aliens or something). Then I remembered an old Hudson Soft game for the MSX, "Eric And the Floaters". It's basically the proto-version of Bomberman/Dynablaster, without the one simple feature which made the later incarnations of the game so timeless: multiplayer. The Floaters were just some balloon like creatures.

As for the floaters of the topic, when I was a kid someone said they are bacteria. I was happy with that explanation and never questioned it until now...
Before Pope John Paul died he decreed that Aliens were also GOD's creatures and we should treat them with respect.

I think the Wikipedia article is wrong. It says some people suffer them, but upon questioning many people I know, 'most' would be a more accurate word. And I'd bet they're more common the older you get too.

Also: whoever chose that term for them is dumb.

I have floaters in both eyes, a cluster of black spots. Drives me fucking nuts. I got them two summers ago when I was clearing out an abandoned building. The walls were white with big windows and as it was the summer months, there was no shortage of sun. The high contrast killed me eyes.

So kids, remember to wear your sunglasses.

Well there is another kind of "floater" that people talk about especially in older people. These are BLACK spots and are signs of retinal detachment or cataracts and should be look at and treated as soon as possible.

I wear contact lenses and I know the feeling of "floaters". When specks of dust stop on them and move with the layer of fluid that cover them.
It's expecially annoying when using a microscope: the floaters reflect on the mirrors and you see them moving around while looking at cells and stuff.
VERY annoying.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

I had always been under the impression that they were "Miniature Eye Nymphs of Mysterious Origin". They hide in the eyes and cast Devil works while you sleep. One must go to their local shopkeep and purchase various savs and tonics made of the hydra's left foot to remedy the situation.

I do have a couple of them as well, similar to the image at Wiki article. They are far more transparent, and I usually only notice them when looking on some uniformly colored still images, definitely not when playing (especially something as colorful as shmups).

Hmm, I've never got these before. In rare occasions after sneezing, my vision is clouded with these particles but they disappear in seconds.

When I was little I noticed them a lot. I used to get really confused when we were using microscopes in school. I would see the floaters and they looked like bacteria, so I thought that's what I was supposed to be seeing. I asked my eye doctor about them years later (because I still saw them), and I realized it was the floaters I was seeing. =P

Most people I know have seen them at some point or another.

i was actually wondering if this was something everyone had. sometimes when i am super bored i concentrate on seeing them, and if i move my eyes just right i follow the patterns.

god i feel like i'm insane. :P
I have no sig whatsoever.

When I was very small I used to believe that I could see UFOs and flying saucers. My mother told me what I was probably seeing was these "floaters" - because I didn't blink enough.

Everyone gets them.
