Appears to be an unspecified 2008 release date for Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network.

Hooray, another arena shooter on PSN/XBLA! Just what I always wanted! But wait, this one's different, it has RANK! The one aspect of shmups I most enjoy! I'm going to go pay $500 for a PS3 just so I can get this one game! Kick-ass!

I so want to love PSN/XBL for their potential to host shooters, but Powerup Warning Everyday Every Extend Geometry Wars Forever just solidifies the reputation the services have for misguided Arena shooters that just miss the mark (a very few notable examples excluded)...
It's an interesting concept, at least. Enemies much larger than you are oblivious to you while the ones that are smaller are harmless. I wasn't immediately drawn in, but I'll give the demo another few runs.
It's not bad at all. As i tell everyone else, if you like this sub-genre of shoot em ups, you'll probably like the game. The game is also varied enough to where it doesnt get too boring.
Boss battles are cheesy though.

I was looking for a thread this game and I guess no one likes it but me. I never had Geometry Wars, just saw screen shots. Now that I have a PS3 I bought this for $10 and enjoying a lot. A pretty sweet game and graphically stunning. Each time u finish a stage and kill the boss, your ship grows bigger and enemies that were sedimentary before see u and start moving to attack. Its pretty manic.
I guess I should finally buy an XBox 360 and grab some shmups...do xbox 360's still die after 2 months of play? I mean seriously...my nephew lives next door to me and his 360 sits in a corner of his house collecting dust because of the dreaded red button. I don't want to buy one until MS starts putting out decent units.

You'll be waiting a long time. I've heard that even new units still have the possibility of red-ringing. It's a fundamental flaw in the design of the system. They don't care enough to redo it all. Microsoft hates you and wants you to suffer as much as possible.

That was the only glaring thing I saw wrong with the game, the shield takes getting used to...its almost useless. I somehow managed 2.5 million points...feeble to most of the people I've seen on the web that have scores in the 10's of millions.

At least the PS3 console doesn't suffer from the "Red Ring of Death" malady. The heat generated from a PS3 is quite something...seems that the internal cooling fan doesn't seem adequate enough, hence some 3rd-party PS3 cooling fan accessories are available to address that particular issue. ^_~

I'm gonna have to call this one out. I have one of the original 60GB PS3's with the "emotion engine" hardware and that 90-nm furnace of a cpu. I actually keep my room warm even in the winter by running folding@home all the time and the unit hasn't had any overheating issues. I think the 3rd party cooling fans are just ways of the accessory companies getting a profit any way they can.
I remember seeing a fan for the PS2 in Wal-Mart when it was at the height of its popularity. Ah well, I guess some people keep their home theater equipment in tight spaces and want that circulation. (Though I imagine the more rapid rate of dust getting sucked into the unit would be more harmful than any possible heat buildup or even help contribute to the buildup by backing a dust wall blocking the ventilation.)
Sorry guys haha I am way off topic so I'll shutup now.

I'm pretty sure that there have been no reports of a Jasper unit Red Ringing so far.
I have gone back a couple of times lately to play this forgotten shmup (PS3 version tested). Each time I still enjoy seeing the fractal/psychedelic "liquid color" visual effects this game has going on. Some of the music is not too bad, in an Aphex Twin sort of way either, at least it seems to suit the game.
Gameplay depth is probably the weak link here, but there's a "Hardcore" mode which ramps up the excitment level somewhat, I would recommend that mode instead of the default. The gameplay is unusual but actually not bad once you get used to it. The closest parallel I can remember to this gameplay flow is Sinistar. Once I get into a rhythm with the game, I find myself looking forward to the next boss battle dogfight. I think I'm going to post a question on the Strategy forum to clarify some points I don't fully understand. There's a whole bunch of unlockable game modes I haven't even seen yet...
