What is YOUR favorite Cave game!

Post by Ligersknight »

My personal favorate is Guwange, because one, it is unique and i find it to be up to my skill level (in terms of survival anyways -_-).

Which is your favorite?

DDP, I guess. Though I also enjoyed playing Mushihime-sama alot, while I had access to it. Another one I believe to suit my tastes and capabilities is Ketsui: I like its bullet patterns (I enjoy playing them in YGS2000), risk/reward factors and presentation values.

So, to rank them:

1) DDP,
2) Mushi,
3) Ketsui.

I also need to try Espgaluda, I haven't given it much attention as of yet (yeah, I dislike trance more than cheesy sythie pop/techno/buttrock).

Among the ones I have access to, DDP because it's the hardest and is well made with solid gameplay. Guwange would be my favorite if art was the main criteria.

Now among all Caves, I'd say :

1- Mushihimesama Futari
2- Mushihimesama
3- Ketsui

DP and DDP are definitely among my most played. I haven't had the pleasure to try Mushihimesama, but I know I'd love it (likewise with most of the newer Cave games, I imagine). Guwange is probably my favorite.

ESP Ra.De.

I like the setting, mechanical designs, audio, and it is really fun to play. I wish they'd make a direct sequel to it.

Progear. It gets huge points for being a hori and still fun, with an awesome scoring system to boot. Probably my favorite hori alongside R-Type.

Mushi, Galuda and Progear, three really similar games IMO, and all of them with amazing settings, backgrounds, character designs and everything non-gameplay that makes me love a shmup.
ESP Ra. De. would probably be my favorite on that aspect, but I _hate_ multicolored bullets and the game just isn't much fun.
Gameplay-wise, DP is probably the best one, for reasons I've already mentioned on other posts.

So if I had to make a top 5, it'd be

Mushi
Progear
Galuda
DonPachi
ESP Ra. De.

All the other Cave games have something that make them less appealing to me... DOJ has the scoring system (or should I say the way it's exploited), Guwange is absolutely not fun even though it's beautiful, Dangun put me off right from the start because it was totally different from what I expected, Ibara is good but isn't Cave and DDP... well... ._.

(Anyway, isn't this topic kinda... repetitive? :P )

It's a tie between Ibara (arcade mode) and ESPgaluda for me, but I haven't had the chance to play any of the titles that aren't on PS2 or MAME.

In that order.

ESP Ra.de.

For the same reason as above poster. Setting, mechanics, music, and designs.

Really love this game.

But the last 1.5 stages are murder.

That's my take on it too. Guwange is a little bit too easy though and I would like faster bullets but that would ruin the mood of the game.

Seriously though, I have played Uo Poko the most.
It is powerup of laser.

Guwange easy? Hrmm...
My problem with Guwange(although it's a top 10 favorite of mine) is how it really goes too far with the "slow swarm of bullets" thing. I genuinely feel like i'm wading through bullets in the later levels. It strarts to strart crossing the line from "exciting" to "tedious". But it's other virtues make up for it.

So much love for Guwange. I have to go back and give it a shot.

EDIT: I just did. I still don't get the love for this game. The avatar/shot mechanic seems tedious to me. Although, the patterns, sound and art direction are all pretty good.

Either I haven't gave an honest go at others, or I'm just not good enough to do so. Or I don't have access to them.

espgaluda 2.
i think of kakusei zesshikai as some sort of massive breakthrough in system design taking the bullet hell concept to the next level. more such, please.

i also have a deep irrational love for mushi which i cannot for the life of me justify as it's certainly the most broken of the bunch.
