TOM-STGT SuperFestival: Gaiapolis (EVERYONE CAN PARTICIPATE)

Gaiapolis

ARCADE
ALL DEFAULTS
SINGLE CREDIT, DO NOT USE PASSWORDS

MONUMENTALLY AWESOME ACTION GAME DEVELOPED BY KONAMI.

You think Shadows Over Mystara is epic for an arcade game? That is NOTHING compared to Gaiapolis.

The game is just too damn awesome, and gets awesomer as it goes on. The set piece stages that solely consist of incredible boss fights are a particular attraction, and there are many spectacular scenes at various points in the game, especially towards the climax. The game has a very stylish and mysterious use of modern day civilization/technology mixed with the fantasy setting.

Graphics, music, direction, everything about this game is superb.

Remember that using passwords is NOT ALLOWED, all high score runs must be done starting from the beginning on a single credit.

SCORING SYSTEM & HINTS

- Lots of hidden areas and secrets in this game in order to find better equipment for your character, enjoy finding them!
- Holding the attack button raises your shield, essential for certain encounters such as the 2nd boss

I tried to run this on mame, my computer freezes on the intro. It COMPLETELY freezes, not even CTRL+ALT+DEL can save it. It only happens on this game, weirdely enough.

Ed Oscuro 460 Stage 2 (boss) Ver. JAF

I ran ver. JAF, it seems to work well enough although the background colors went gold (wrong) after dying during the second boss.

The game is emulated properly apart from the map screen which has some issues.

And Ed Oscuro, you forget to say which character you used...

PRINCE!?
FAIRY!?
DRAGON!?

Personally I didn't like this game much, Shadow over Mystara is much better. But I'll play it some more.

Big cheers to Macaw, plz sign me up. Do you know/remember how to trigger the special attacks (not the dashing move, the 'super-hits' like the flaming sword for the Prince?!).

TIPS OF MACAW

1: Double tap a direction then release for running attack. Move quickly in a circle 360 degrees for the spinning attack.

2: Attack a certain area of the stone wall in stage 2 to reveal a weapon upgrade

3: In stage 3, hit the doors to open them and then enter for awesome stuff.

4: To defeat stage 3 boss, strike him a single time then immediately move down out of range of hit counter slash. Continue doing this until your cornered at the bottom of the screen, then move up and to the left or right to lead the boss back up to the top of the screen, then repeat the attacking process. If he starts attack to the side while your leading him back up then just move out of the way, his attack is quite slow.

5: To defeat the stage 4 boss:
Form 1 (Knight) If you haven't used any magic by this point you will have saved up enough for Dragon Laser. Unleash it on him.
Form 2 (Tank) Attack from the sides and block the blue rings with your shield.
Form 3 (Huge Mech) Stay between his legs and attack
Form 4 (Flying Mech) Stay in the center underneath him and madly attack to destroy him pretty quickly

Oh man, this is going all week? I might have to give it a shot, unfortunately it's finals week, but hey, vertical action games are few and far between.

Never, apparently.

But for the revisions that added the various clones:
.67 for JAF ROM
- 0.97u4: Brian Troha added Gaiapolis (Europe ver EAF). Renamed (gaiapols) to (gaiapolu).
- 0.96u2: Corrado Tomaselli added Gaiapolis (US ver UAF). Renamed (gaiapols) to (gaiapolj).

If you want to know when something was specifically updated, get ahold of history.dat (or Mash's MAMEINFO, forget which), and it'll show the update in that artwork/screenshot tab to the right.

The 5th and 7th boss are incredibly lame

They're like wussy versions of the 3rd boss

8th boss is unpossible

also it's awesome how enemies don't do contact damage (unless contact triggers an attack)

I disagree, Stage 5 boss is a pain in the ass. I have no idea how to deal with him.

Hit twice, run away, hit twice, run away, etc.

Just don't be standing around his upper-half after the 2nd hit.
