Platform: Dreamcast
Players: 4 players

1). BRIEF HISTORY AND CONTENTS

When the original Power stone was released near the launch of the Dreamcast in the US, as good as the game was, it was unfortunatly quickly overlooked because it was released around the same time as Soul calibur and ready to rumble. Though many still got to appreciate the game.

Power stone 2 was released on Dreamcast in 2000, and quickly became one of the must have games among DC fans. The gameplay changed quite drastically though, some preferred the original gameplay but many welcomed it.

This is one of those games that greatly deserves the name "sequel". Power Stone 2 added alot of new features to the original formula, including, more characters, an amazing amount of items and weapons (over 150), and more extra modes to add longevity.

But probably the most notiecable and greatest improvements were that the game was now 4 players, so you could have 4-player simultaneous battles. Also the levels now were alot more interactive than the first game, and through the battles the levels actually change forcing you to run and fight in completly new places.

Also the number of powerstones could be increased to 7, so two people could be powered up at once!
Powerstone 2 has insane action and looks amazing even now, checkout the pics below.

2). CHARACTERS:

WANG-TANG
Image

The most popular and easy to use character Wang-tang is very fast and has many moves. One of his special moves is a blatant copy of Gokou's spirit bomb technique in Dragonball z. He even looks like a super saiyan!

RYOMA
Image

The only guy with a sword in the game, he's speed is average but has a long range, and his specials are powerful. One of the coolest characters in the game.

FALCON
Image

The main charcter and most balanced in strength and speed. Very easy to use like Wang-tang, his rocket launcher specials are nice.

GALUDA
Image

One of the slower characters, but has high defensive and offensive skiils.
His specials include taking his opponents in the air, and slamming them in to the ground, nice!

ROGUE :D
Image

Faster than most of the others, and her flame attacks have high range and do much damage. General attacks are weak though.

AYAME
Image

Weak attacks and item throws, but she is the fastest in the game and has powerful specials.

GUNROCK
Image

Slowest but also the strongest fighter in the game, good with throwing objects, his specials are deadly.

JACK
Image

Unpredictable moves and very tricky, weak attacks and very annoying.

NEWCOMERS: PETE
Image

Weak, but when powered up has more specials than any of the others.

JULIA
Image

Has long range attacks with her umbrella, although quite weak her specials can stun and cause alot of damage.

GOURMAND
Image

Very strong and has the longest range. His attacks are very accurate but lacks much speed and moves.

ACCEL
Image

Only cowboy with guns, he's the most mobile and very fast when powered up. Nice specials he's also really cool! one of my most favourite characters! 8)

3). CLOSING

It's a shame this game didn't get the recognition it deserves, which is why some like me feel this game is under-rated. A multi-platform release might have changed this.

This game is one of the main reasons why I love the Dreamcast. The first Power stone may have had more one player depth, but IMO Power stone 2 was easily more fun and had a more balanced gameplay. It's one of my most favourite games, if you have a Dreamcast but don't have this game, I reccomend you consider it!

A PS2 release was announced but in the end it was cancelled, so less people got to experience this game.

So there you have it, my little tribute to a quality game. For those who bothered to take the time to read this, thank you, hope you enjoyed it!

Power Stone 2 was definitely a fun as hell game, I just wish they would have kept some of the core gameplay from the original, as it had deeper fighting.

Also, the boss was lame as hell. They should have brought back Kraken and Vargas. Those guys were awesome. :D

*nods* I recall powerstone 1 being better in the 1p mode, while power stone 2 has been collecting dust here coz I don't have anyone to play it with.

What type of game is this? An action-adventure?

Nope, just straight 1-on-1 fighters with 3D environments and controls.

Power Stone 2 allows for up to 4 players...it's a bit "wackier" than the first one, and tends to rely more on throwing things and getting items than the first, which is a bit closer to a "traditional" fighting game. 1P mode in PS2 can get repetitive, but you pretty much have to play it to be able to make all the hidden items.

And just for the record, Gourmand's my favorite char, just because no one else is so shameless as to use him.

My favorite was Jack in the original. In the sequel I liked the Cowboy and Falcon's father. IMO everyone else was gimped crossing over to the sequel.
