Taito F3 Favorites

Post by professor ganson »

I'd like to hear what your favorites are. Here is a list:

I only have Space Invaders '95 so far. I love this game.

Bubble Memories, Kyukyoku Tiger II, Puchi Carat, Puzzle Bobble 2X

To be honest I've never given Rayforce a decent amount of time to warrant an opinion on it.

Ray Force (although not actually part of the modular F3 system)
Darius Gaiden
Pop'n Pop
Elevator Action Returns
Dungeon Magic
Cleopatra Fortune
Landmaker

Most F3 games got arcade perfect ports on Saturn or Playstation, so I never really felt the need to buy the arcade system.

Akkanvader by itself justifies the cost.

I played Landmaker a lot when I was younger, though just recently learned it was an F3 game.

Also note that about 6 or 7 of those on the wiki list are NOT carts. There are dedicated F3 boards, of which there are about 3 different variants, even though they are part of the F3 family.

There are also cart hacks available where somebody found a way to get the ROM data from a dedicated F3 board onto a spare cart. These run $150-$250 depending on the game and can be found on YAJ here and there. Most coveted is the Rayforce cart. I'm curious if they run exactly the same in cart format, as the motherboards are not identical :?:

Honorable mention is Riding Fight. Kinda kooky, but I found it an enjoyable play, in a Starfox/TMNT kinda way ;)

Arabian Magic is also a very good scrolling fighter.

Arkanoid Returns
Darius Gaiden - Silver Hawk
Elevator Action Returns

Speaking of EAR, what the hell is a "Taff"? Furthermore, what exactly makes Jad a "Taff"?

Bubble Symphony
Bubble Memories

Arabian Magic
Space Invaders 95/Akkanvader
Darius Gaiden
Puzzle Bobble 2,3, and 4
Arkanoid Returns (prefer the PSX version myself)

Elevator Action 2
Pop'n Pop (better than Puzzle Bobble, by a long shot- this game should've gotten a sequel or two if PB got so many)
Darius Gaiden
Rayforce
Puchi Carat
Bubble Symphony
Bubble Memories
Akkanvader
Light Bringer
Kaiser Knuckle
Dan-Ku-Ga

"Jad the Taff" may mean "Jad the Tough". Just a guess.

Dan-Ku-Ga does improve on Kaiser Knuckle, having the Super SFII style combo bonuses and the level select before a game. Who knows why Taito passed on formally releasing this upgrade.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Of those that I've played I'd say Landmaker and Akkanvader. Cleopatra Fortune, Pop n' Pop and Puchi Carat would probably be "honorable mentions."

Gekirindan is so underrated. You all fail except the handful of members with good taste.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I was thinking the same thing, excellent title, most of the dislike comes from the horrid saturn port, hence the neglect.

And the other half of the dislike probably comes from those who dislike easy games for whatever reason...

Has anyone played through all of Recal Horn? How does it fair against legendary platformers like Castle Of Illusion?

I've played through the first few levels, but was curious of thoughts from those who'd cleared the thing...?

I've been mame-ing grid seeker, and I really like it.
Rayforce is amazing- even though It might not be for every day.
Twin Tiger II rules.
Darius Gaiden is one of my favorite games ever.
I never got into Gekerindan, although it's got some good stuff. Music is good.
