First "Raiden Clone"?

Post by antron »

So who invented the,

Pick up a color that changes your gun: Red spread bullets, Blue laser, and some other third color/weapon.

Truxton is 1988, before any Raiden.

Anything before that?

Twin Cobra, 1987. Never played it. Does it fit this group?

R-Type had red, blue, & yellow lasers in '87.

I am woefully ignorant of Toa's earlier efforts, so I don't know if Irem copied them or vice versa. I should heat up Mame for a history lesson.

Anyway, the original Raiden only had red and blue weapons. The purple twisty laser didn't arrive until the second game.

So what raiden clones are there anyway?
I know of Shienryu which reeks of clonedom, but is a very good game.
I don't know of any other raiden clones. Well, perhaps that Shienryu sequal.

No, that's not similar to Raiden at all. It's not even similar to Shienryu.

Raiden itself is such a clone that any clones of it would be deformed and/or retarded.

lol, Allumer.

There's apparently a fairy point in the first stage, but shooting it repeatedly doesn't seem to have any affect. It's on the left of the screen immediately after the first medal and the big reddish square tank that shoots a wide spread of three orange shots. Anybody have a clue what to do here?

Kyuukyoku Tiger/Twin Cobra was the first to use the varying powerups.

I think of the Twin Cobra series, the Raiden series, and Shienryu as all having a strong family resemblance to one another. There are plenty of cousins as well.

Actually, Raiden is more or less a Kyukyoku Tiger (Twin Cobra) clone.

Like CIT said I think Kyukyoku Tiger is the first with changing color powerups that switch when you leave them standing for a while.

and I don't get why everyone seems to associate Shienryu to Raiden and not to Daioh....that being said, Daioh is a bit of a raiden clone.

Yes, but Sheinryu is more so. Shienryu had a medal-collection system, and Daioh did not.

Raiden is a first, borrowing some concept from older games. Daioh and Mad Shark followed.
