come on... it works and since it's a home game it makes since. I'll get it for 10.00 bucks. looks a hell of alot better than THE. good to see stuff popping up like this often now.16:9 Widescreen Yoko Vertical Shooter....Noooooooo!
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I haven't played it, but the screenshots and videos of it look fine. It's apparent that there's at least some sort of art direction present and that the models and textures were made by people who actually know their stuff. Not trying to be "realistic" by drowning everything in muddy brown surely helps, too, though.Strider77 wrote:guess you didn't like omega 5 either....
Totally unlike 1942 HD.
It all depends on how the gameplay is implemented. If they just keep the regular mechanics of the series they will be in trouble. One solution could be to focus the action on the centre of the screen at all times, so that the very left and the very right become like in-game borders. Looking at the videos they seem to at least have the enemies that is coming from the sides move quickly towards the center.Dave_K. wrote:16:9 Widescreen Yoko Vertical Shooter....Noooooooo!
Those big enemy planes look extremely flat and dull. Detailed textures please.
It is powerup of laser.
They should make it a splitscreen deal. you can both start 1p games on your own screen and you can fight for points, survival, etc.
I am indeed very curious what they will do with it? probably side bars with stats like how many lives you have and score, blech.
Has there ever been a 16:9 yoko vert before?
ME, I'm still waiting for the first 16:9 tate. That would be so awesome.
EDIT, it actually looks pretty cool.
same first vid as in IGN link, but normal youtube this time. http://youtube.com/watch?v=uyRCRy9hf58

I quite like the look of it, but with it being yoko, and looking totally different to the original 1942, isn't really just a new game in the series? Surely, based on those screens and vids anyway. I see lots of familiar stuff, but they aren't 1942's verys same enemy formations and bullet patterns are they?
Not that I know of. The closest is probably the vertizontals for the CPS3, since they have a resolution of 384x224.D wrote:Has there ever been a 16:9 yoko vert before?
The Galaga clone I'm making have a resolution of 480x272 (it was supposed to be for the PSP), but of course with a Galaga clone it is easy to have the action centered on an area smaller than the actual screen.

Space Invaders Extreme for the PSP is getting there.
Developing a vert shooter for a 16:9 screen seems to me an incredibly aspergic thing to do...and in any case it doesn't seem likely because how many non-dedicated arcade setups use 16:9 screens, anyway? Perhaps more than in the past, but it's still not all that many.

I quite like the art direction and the music on this one. Gameplay looks solid though I wish the bosses would be more...spectacular. Guess I'm spoiled by Under Defeat.
Imo bitching about the apect ratio (16:9 ws yoko) is pretty pointless since the game is made mainly with coop (joint strikes) in mind - the extra space on both sides is clearly part of the gameplay.
What I find interesting is that a new arcade title like this is sold for 10 bucks while 5pb is apparently going for a full priced disc release with a port of a 6 year old game that is still being played at jp arcades - makes total sense...not

On that note, can the vewlix even tate? It does look like it.Ed Oscuro wrote:Space Invaders Extreme for the PSP is getting there.

Oh yeah I forgot!Thunder Force wrote:That award goes to Star Soldier PSP (unfortunately far from awesome though...)D wrote:ME, I'm still waiting for the first 16:9 tate. That would be so awesome.
I could be played with component cables on a 16:9 tv and the signal would be 480p and I'd have to set my tv to wide to get the proper view. I do wonder how that looks and if it is really going to work like that!

To better show what I have talked about earlier I have made a short demo of the game I'm making. It's basically the first level, without the boss and with lots of graphics that need to be cleaned up. Just four very short segments. This is one way of implementing a widescreen aspect.
A word of warning first. The demo seems to be crashing and even locking up some computers when you press 'Z'. I have no idea why and it seems totally random just which machine will be affected.
Press 'F' to remove the fake scanlines, 'Shift' to restart. Press '1', '2' and '3' to change resolution. '1' is the original one.
