For those of you who want them: I am slowly (2GB/day or so) going to be posting my entire shmup replay collection to usenet. Files will be complete on www.easynews.com and are posted in alt.binaries.multimedia search for STG as the title of the posts will always beging STG Replay. Files are not rared up as I don't have space, they are the raw video files of anything from 1MB to 1GB in size.

Hope they are of use.

i just started downloading them today from giganews, there are a few incompletes but the missing parts might appear in the next couple days.

Total usenet n00b question - how do I get these files? I click on the message and I get tons of gibberish. I'm using Mozilla's email client to access the group. Do I need a special news program?

Edit: Nevermind. I found what seems to be a good tutorial site on usenet. Still, which newsreader would you reccomend? This site says NewsBin Pro.

OmegaFlareX: Sign up to www.easynews.com, and download via HTTP. Or use a dedicated newsreader like GrabIt!. It's not advisable using an email client's newsreader to try and get these, as the files will be garbled.

Need a little help. Like an idjit I picked 'incremental update' instead of full update in grabit (never been in this group before) and it won't display any articles...is there any hope? I believe if I download it again i'll exceed my limit for this month.

edit: Deleted old stuff, downloaded it with full update, I still can't see any articles?

Grabit is good freeware...are you sure you are subscribed to the correct group ?

Check the spelling !

Seriosuly, sign up for easynews. they have a web interface for usenet. you select the files you want and queue them into a zip file (up to 2GB in size) and you can have up to 10 zip files. You then download the zips with something like reget or getright (or plain old IE). Easynews has 30-40 days retention and a massively high completition ratio.

If anyone is currently downloading them from my FTP then please have a go at getting them from the newsgroup, you'll be able to download them miles quicker from there.

The FTP is always there if you need it though.

Another glowing recommendation for EasyNews. Been using them for a while, and I get ~16gb/month after all is said and done. Just for usenet searching it's almost worth the price!!!

Jigsawman...I remember one of the last times you posted to usenet...would you be able to provide us w/ a listing of which files you're posting? For us EasyNews folks, it's no big deal b/c their retention is just ridiculous (good), but it'd be nice to know which files I already have and which I don't (the minority).

Because I only have 1Mb of available upstream and I can post stuff to usenet on a schedule that suits me. Also people can download from easynews at about 10Mb/s if they have a fast enough connection.

I ran an FTP for a few months just recently and back a year or so ago and I was using 150GB of bandwidth a week which is just too much.

Usenet is a very good distribution mechanism for files IMO and VERY user friendly for newbies if they sign up to easynews. But it should be noted that giganews is pretty good and also offers an unlimited account.
