New Ebay Feedback System: Sellers Can't Give Feedback
New Ebay Feedback System: Sellers Can't Give Feedback
Will be implemented in May 2008. It's supposed to prevent "revenge-feedback". Pretty idiotic, if you ask me. That means non-paying/scamming buyers (for instance people who use chargeback) won't get bad feedback anymore.
They should rather change their system so that feedback isn't shown until both parties have issued it.

Wow that sucks. However, I do see what's motivating it. I've never dared leave bad feedback because I know the seller will just leave me bad feedback, even though I always pay for everything within seconds with paypal.
A better system is this: sellers should be forced to leave feedback first. It would be very easily implemented.

Premise: I rarely sold on ebay. On the other hand, I do often buy there.
I'm not sure that's the best way to handle it, but I must also say that it's relieving that I could finally brand a negative seller (just how many were so evidently cheaters who never shipped in first place...) without having an undeserved backlash.
I understand: for sellers, it must be quite frustrating. But if nothing else, if ebay has took such a measure, it probably means that "undeserved backlash" to buyers must have been a far more big problem than the opposite.

Wait, that's it!! That would be indeed the perfect solution!!A better system is this: sellers should be forced to leave feedback first. It would be very easily implemented.
That wouldn't be fair too. Buyers that didn't like the item, or didn't even pay for it could scam upright sellers in the first place.MX7 wrote: A better system is this: sellers should be forced to leave feedback first. It would be very easily implemented.
I can't really see a solution for that. It should be a mutual consent between a buyer and a seller, but if they can't get it, one side will always be a victim.
My guess is: the feedback would be too much accurate this way. It would be perfect for users, but perhaps a little less for ebay, because potential buyers might get discouraged.Ceph wrote:You don't understand: Neither buyer nor seller would see eachother's feedback until both have issued feedback.Senshu wrote:That's a good idea. But what if one side is given a deserved negative ? Certainly he/she would not accept issuing it. That way none ever gets a negative.
Other than this, it would be a nice idea to implement.
Ok, my system would have to include a certain timespan, after which feedback could no longer be issued (shorter than it is now), and after which any given feedback would automatically appear.

Ceph, where's your post o_O.
About the idea, i got it right actually. The thing is that the cheater will never agree to any feedback from the contractor.

I don't understand. You (seller/buyer) would give whatever feedback you think is ok, just like now. Only you wouldn't know what feedback was issued until you issue yours, after which both feedbacks would appear.
Ebay could even implement an automatic system that prevents scamming sellers from issuing lots of negative feedback to buyers (from which they rightfully expect bad feedback), eg. delete all feedback from sellers who give lots of bad feedback to buyers.

I'm not convinced there is a bullet proof way of doing this.
I'm also of the opinion there should be a button to press for positive feedback instead of a descriptive note. I mean who wants to read 3 million lines of positive feedback when your only interested in the negative ones? Its just a waste of server space and time.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

There will never be a perfect feedback system but this would be a great improvement.
My biggest problem is getting sellers, who insist I leave a feedback 1st, to leave a feedback at all. Too often I end up sending them repeated msgs to "please leave a positive feedback as I have already done for you" a couple of freakin' weeks ago, asswipe!
Ive been very lucky in the several years & several thousand $ Ive spent on ebay with only 1 loser selling me a crappy bit of product that wasnt worth the effort or the cost to return or the negative feedback I would have gotten in return for my giving a negative feedback. I just took it as a reminder that there are those who spend their days looking for a way to rip me/us off & to think it thru' before I buy.

I've never ever seeing someone giving me positive feedback before I even paid. Your first point does hold a bit though but sellers can already leave comments after that.Senshu wrote:That wouldn't be fair too. From what I understand it's already quite easy for (power)sellers to get negative feedback deleted.
Ebay just seems to care more about it's sellers then about it's buyers which is 'understandable' from their business point of view.
I only had to give negative feedback once now and I just waited till the last day to give it so the other party would have to do it immediately too which they didn't

All errors are intentional but mistakes could have been made.

There was once a way to get all the negative FB on a member on ebay without having to troll every page. I cant recall if it was an external piece of software or something ebay had ( which is less likely ) that would locate all neg's & combine them in a readable form. Does anyone know aqbout this or am I just wishing it were so...neorichieb1971 wrote:I'm not convinced there is a bullet proof way of doing this.

This seems to do the trick without adding an extension to firefox.

As a buyer, I've always left positive feedback to avoid retaliatory feedback, but I've sometimes left negative comments in the positive feedback box. This typically resulted in the seller getting mad at me via e-mail and then refusing to leave me any feedback. Sellers like that will finally get what they deserve, and might stop using words like "mint" and "like new" so liberally.
However, as a seller I worry that this will empower buyers to scam people and do chargebacks on PayPal. As such, I'll probably have to start doing insured registered mail on all items, or whatever service is needed to prove to PayPal that the item was shipped.
As a buyer again, I expect all sellers to start doing this, meaning everything will cost more.
