They had their hearts in the right place for the Mushi & Ibara ports. Just not their brains or wallets.

Since when did Taito do anything beyond publish the PS2 games? I remember hearing on this forum that Cave did the actual porting, not Taito.

No matter who did the ports, they had a low standard with their published games. Cave, Psikyo, Takumi ports - none are acknowledged as good.

Did Taito go wrong? or did they just not go right?

Seems like a lot of their shooters aren't bad, just really mediocre.

Yes, Darius is/was the most long running mediocre shooter series and that's their flagship.

True, a lot of those soundtracks are genuine assets of their games... Taito's shooters tend to go quite far on "atmosphere" alone for me thanks largely to ZTT, which is a brilliant (and inimitable) effect where the better-made ones are concerned, and at the very least a welcome point of interest otherwise.

I'm a huge Taito fan but I'm not falling for this trap. Besides, many people here have only played their shmups and don't even know about the other games.

Where did they go right: when the G.Rev guys left :)

Taito went wrong when they tried to shoehorn Zuntata soundtracks onto the GBA.

I'll admit that the music was usually the only thing about Taito games I liked ;)

Taito went right when they made the Taito Canary. Taito went wrong when they stopped making the Taito Canary
