EMS2 USB problems

Post by phiggs »

Hey all. My EMS2 USB adapter came in the mail a few days ago and I have been having some trouble getting it to work correctly. I think the unit may actually be defective but I hope not.

Anyways heres the facts: The unit has power; there is nothing wrong with my USB ports; I've tried it on both PC and GAME setting; its a brand new product from play-asia.

And now the problems: It won't detect and install correctly! I've seen 2 or 3 differn't error messages in my adventure of trying to get my PC to detect this, all of which pretty much say "USB Device Not Recognized. This USB device has malfunctioned and may not work properly" in different ways. I tried uninstalling from device manager where it shows up as "Unknown Device" and then manually installing the driver with the CD that came with the product but still no go. I heard about a program called Joy2Key and got that thinking it may be working but just saying its not.. but Joy2Key asks me to plug in a gamepad (with the ems2 plugged in with a ps2 controller) so its definitly not being detected by my windows XP.

It also doesn't detect on my PS2 either.

Anybody had similar problems and know what can be done.. or is it just a defective unit? (damn shoddy hong kong electronics!)

I've had this problem, too. One, make sure you have the latest drivers. You can find them at www.hkems.com in the downloads section.

While I hope that a driver update alone will do the trick, it might not. In that case you may have to restart your PC for it to recognize it. It's weird, but somehow the problem just sort of fixes itself. I don't really get it.

Yea me either ;p

But late last night I got the thing to work on my PC finally! seems one of my USB ports in the front is acting up.. nothing will work on it. But you know earlier I had tested the adapter in the other front usb port, and it didn't work (altho the error messages were slightly different).. but later that night it did after messin with USB drivers and trying that second usb port again.

It seems I was working with a faulty USB port AND USB Driver weirdness at the same time O_o but I finally got it going now... Now to find out why my front USB ports are giving me so much grief in a brand new PC :|

Ah well its all good for now :)

After plugging it back in today it did not work again! But I found out why.. hopefully this tip will help others with the same issues I've been having.

The adapter needs to be set to PC mode when you plug it into the USB port, otherwise you'll get errors. Kind of obvious I guess but it took me a bit to think of that :P

Everything seems to be in working order now though, finally... except for this one USB port in the front of my new PC that won't detect anything I plug into it :( (yes, I've looked at the cable inside my PC and ensured it is securely plugged in to the mobo.. I can't get at or see where it goes to the front panel.. it would be insanely difficult to do that the way my case was built, unfortunately)
