A new section for shmup forum???

There are so many other games that play like a shmups..but aren't shmups at all!
I think it's a great idea to make a new section where you can discuss;

METAL SLUG series
CONTRA series
GUNSTAR HEROES
SMASH TV
MERCS
SCHOCK TROOPERS
ROBOTRON 2084...and the list goes on and on!!

What do you all think of it..Cheers!

I voted no because I think it is more important to have a forum with lists of top shmups for each console than what we can already discuss in the off topic forum. If you think about it, the same questions like 'what shmups should I get for my DC' come up over and over and over. It deserves to be somewhere that any newbie can find it right away--like in a sticky or its own forum. Metal slug and its ilk come up in the off topic forum all the time, I don't see how that need isn't getting taken care of.

Why would a shmups forum dedicate a forum specifically to a genre composed of games that aren't shmups? Sorry, but nobody's calling out for a forum for rail shooters that play like shmups...

I enjoy these types of games as well, but thats what the "Off Topic" section is for.

I think as few forums as possible would be grand.

Development and Shmupmeets forums combined still have less threads than every other forum, their creation was totally unnecessary imo. They also haven't been posted in in a few days apiece. In all it makes people less likely to see shmupmeets/developments that are going on

I used to be in favor of something like this but as others said, it just makes sense to have the forum hub for shooters which is what makes Shmups.com unique.

I think it'd be awesome though if someone made a site and forum specifically for all 2D action and adventure games, everything from Contra, Gunstar to Mario and Metroid.

Although I'm not advocating for more forums -- I really just read the main forum and the trading section, occasionally peaking in on High Scores and Off Topic -- one idea could be to split Off-Topic.

One forum would be for discussion of gaming in general, or, as SH would like, run'n'guns. That's more or less what Off-Topic was designed for. Before, all sorts of topics about games not shmups would pop up with OTs. No random ass shit about penile mutilation, it was almost all gaming. That stuff can get its own Off-Topic area.

If I were going to make any changes, I'd rearrange how the forums are classed. Everything but Off-Topic is under the banner of "Shmups" now. I'd like to see things grouped differently. One group for what I feel is the heart of the forum, the main forum, high scores, and strategy. Trading probably also goes here. Then a seperate section, with hardware, development, shmupmeets. And finally the Off-topic.

Basically, yes. In fact, THE reason off-topic stopped being automagically pruned at 30 (or 60 or whatever) day intervals was because people were posting borderliner content in both 'Chat and OT. Stuff in Chat was kept, and stuff in OT was getting lost. Akira wanted Chat kept clean, so we tried manually cleaning up OT -- a total PITA and massive timesink.

I don't see opening a generic "gaming" section because there's plenty of that stuff elsewhere, but for most borderliners -- I'm not aware of a major English-speaking site that specifically focuses on them.

Everything is great now as it is!
If we add another forum we will lose focus on the main theme of the forum!
Now we have: Shmups and everything realted (High Scores/meets/trades and the supportive "hardware"section and the frivolous "off-topic"-section.

If you want a run and gun forum please register "Run'nGun.com".

Though I like those kind of games as well, we should keep the forum pure and focussed or will be a case of "give one finger...".
