X-box emulation advice needed please?

Post by Marc »

So I finally bit the bullet and chipped the trusty Xbox, due to the fact that my financial situation is utterly dire, my collection is going to have to go, and the Xbox looks to be the only machine that's gonna survive.

Got three emulators and am going to install one of them plus a healthy selection of roms (I know, I know, may the lord have mercy on my soul  - at least I have the grace to be genuinely pissed about having to emulate OK), but am wondering which will be best for me.

I have Mame-X, Mame-OX and Final Burn, and I'm mainly interested to know which will run the Cave shooters most accurately, and whether any of them support TATE. I'm the impatient type that will quickly loose my temper having to copy/delete/mix/match emu's and roms to the HD so just wondering if anyone can pass on the benefit of their knowledge?

Still, there are a few plus points I suppose... all those coin-ops that never got decent home versions... Black Tiger, Dragon Breed, Out Runners, Saboten Bombers, Snow Bros 2... life could be worse

MAME0X and Kawa-X are all you'll ever need.
Final Burn is fine...if you enjoy "lag".

Rather than open a new post, thought I'd just post here...

Are there any emulators to play original discs, such as a PSX, Dreamcast, Saturn, TG-CD or Sega CD?

I dont think you'd be able to emulate Dreamcast (due to the X-Box's Specs)
Saturn is a hard platform to emulate, I'm not sure onthe Sega CD and PCE CD, but the Dreamcast has emulaters inthe works for these two, So X-Box should have them.

Like Twitch said, all you need for arcade emulation is MameOX and maybe KawaX for cps2 + SNK because it loads faster than mame.

I'd recommend getting a 120G HDD installed though, it's so much easier having everything on the HDD. Also you should try out some of the console emu's too: SNES, Megadrive, NES , Master system etc... all run perfectly, i find them faultless. It's like having the history of videogames all in one box:)

I can confirm the Xbox can emulate the PCE CD, through Hu-Go X. But I still can't find the controllers better than the yummy USB Saturn-like pad available out there.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

How do you like the USB Saturn pad compared with the real Sega Saturn pad?

Thanks for clearing that up Specineff, How is Hu-Go X for the xbox?

Cugel I too would like to know about the USB Saturn pad :)

It's the only controller I'll ever need.

So I had a play with various stuff over the weekend. Got hold of one of the Genesis emu's (Gens I think)... gaddamn. Stuck Streets Of Rage 2 on side by side with the original. It absolutely blows my mind that my Xbox is sat there pumping out a rendidtion of this game that's nicer-looking (mine's a PAL Mega Drive remember, borders and slower speed) and smoother than the original  This is some serious shit.

Ended up just ripping the contents of the Final Burn disc for now, wasn't in the mood for messing around, and am pleasantly surprised with the results. DonPachi and DoDonPachi seem to run like a dream, the CPS1 stuff seems perfect, only stuff I can't really compare is the Neo cause it's been a while since I had to get rid of mine. Damn those new 19xx games suck though... And being a Cave fanboy, finally getting to play EspRaDa, and finding that I like it as much as, if not more so than DoDonPachi was fucking amazing. I can see me getting into the PCB thing once this whole sorry financial mess is over
