Good shmup gamepad for PS2

Post by sffan »

I'm looking for a gamepad with a good D-pad, not an arcade stick. I've been using the "Sega Playstation" gamepad, which is the Saturn pad for the PS2, but it's now unavailable. Mine will wear out eventually and I'll need a backup.

Any recommendations?

That's really not a very good d-pad.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions sffan. I'm looking for a good one too. Currently I'm using a convertor that lets me use an xbox controller S, which I find to be a bit better than the DS2 d-pad, but still not ideal

If you're sufficiently insane it's possible to get a PSX controller PCB and cram it into a Saturn pad, making your own PS2 saturn pad. Sticking to saturn pads is probably the best way.

You could probably cram the chopped up PCB into a Wii Classic Controller too, though I have never opened one up to take a look inside.

Well, this is what i use. Not the best, but still way better than Sony pads.

Great D-Pad, but face buttons feel a bit stiff (nothing too bad, just takes time to get used to). It has built-in USB converter, so it can be also used on PC. And it's cheaper than Sony controllers. (but that's in europe, Sony stuff is ridiculously overpriced here)
