I fucking HATE Verytex

Post by icycalm »

Anyone else here play this MD shooter? It looks and sounds great, nice enemies, nice boss designs, controls are ultra-smooth and bosses look awesome and scary and stuff, but stage design is appalling. Every stage has this freaking 10-minute long segment that's so easy you end spacing out and catching a bullet in the face, RIGHT BEFORE THE BOSS FIGHT.

And then it's back to the beginning of that boring segment for another 10 minutes, etc. etc.

I really want to see what happens next, yet I can't be bothered to keep trying. And I refuse to use savestates.

So, does anything change from the 3rd stage onwards? Will I miss anything if I just shelve it?

I got to the last boss of the game (didn't 1cc because it was stupid).

Last stage looked terrible.

But the music was pretty good (Hitoshi Sakimoto did the music).

Hitoshi eh? Odd. Wonder if he even knew about the game.

Seems like I'll give this a go.

1CCed this game a couple of years back. The final boss has a blind spot at the top right corner of the screen. I played the game just for the music; I find it awesome and so 80s.

I like Verytex. It's not exactly striving to be original, as a lot of stuff comes across as a generic late 80s shmup. But, it plays well, has some nice tunes, and I've 1CCed it on hard, and 1LCed it on normal.

Yeah, some of the stages are simply not fun. And the main ship when it has a shield on looks really amateurish.

But, ohhh... the music!

I bought this game when it 1st came out, I got rid of it a few weeks later.....

why? b/c I thought it was dumb aside from a few of the tunes.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Haven't played this one in years, but IIRC it's nothing special if it doesn't strike your fancy. Go ahead and pass on it. There's plenty of other MD games worth your time.
