In the hunt problems

Post by DazTM »

Just picked this up today and it doesn't seem to want to work on my Japanese skeleton Saturn. I know a few games were incompatible with it (outrun for example) and was just wondering if this was the same case?

I vaguely recall having problems with my US copy playing on my system with a cart used to boot it. It would take several tries for some reason, and even then, half the time it would just freeze up.

Are you using a cart, or is your copy Japanese?

If you have the hardware for it, get the PS1 version if you can-AFIK, it runs faster then the Saturn version.

Not knocking on the original poster or anything, but does anyone here think In the Hunt's a shmup or not? I know I know, we have this discussion like every week, but no one's bought up ITH yet.

Personally I think it's akin to run n gunners since the screen doesn't scroll forcefully (except for that one level).

I'd agree with you but no gravity is really the only thing separating the game from a run 'n gun and non-forced scrolling is really the only thing separating the game from a shooter.

IMHO it's a shmup. The forced scrolling criteria is just too restrictive.

Is Atomic Robokid a shmup? That's another borderline case.

Yes.
I have the exact same setup as you and it doesn't work.
The US version does, though, with the appropriate modding of the console or the use of an Action Replay or similar cart.

Cheers for the info mate :)

As for the 'is it a shmup or not questions' It's in the Saturn's Xenocide Files so it must be...

I have a Jap saturn which ran the Jap game perfectly crappy.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

So's Contra Hard Corps, AX-101, a nonexistent Wings of War shooter for either the SCD or 32X, and a duplicate entry for the Saturn Macross game. My point: don't blindly trust any authority source.

Yeah, some games (at least Outrun, Space Harrier, and After Burner) were incompatible with later Saturn models (circular power button.) On this system the games would be very jerky, be missing sound, or just not boot. I'm lucky I got an older (oval-buttoned) Saturn then.
