Post by Fighter17 »

undamned just gave me a idea (thanks :D), is there a list of PSX Puzzle games and Saturn Puzzle games?

I know some of them:

Magical Drop II + III (also on Saturn)
Pop'n'Pop
Money Idol Exchanger
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (also on Saturn)
Various Puzzle Bobble games on PSX and Saturn

I know there's more, care to share the good ones?

There are ridiculous amounts of Japan-only 32-bit puzzlers out there - now and again I'll happen across yet another one I've never heard of, and can find either little or no info online about, even in Japanese. Heaven knows if one could ever manage a decently complete list of them...and that's without considering what "counts" as a puzzle game, as there are plenty of hybrids out there.

Off the top of my head I would add Tokimeki Memorial Taisen Tokkaedama and Coin Puzzle Moujiya on the Saturn (and maybe Ochige Designer Tsukette Pon, sort of a puzzle equivalent of Dezaemon), as well as Puzzle Arena Toshinden, Psychic Force Puzzle Taisen, Stressless Lesson LesLes, Puchi Carat, Tri-Puzz, Twinbee Puzzledama and Gussun Paradise on the PS...and that Ghouls n' Ghosts (Arthur to Astaroth something or other...) puzzler on both.

It's not bad, and really cheap so there isn't much to lose. Definitely not my favourite puzzle game but I enjoyed it for the price of admission.

And it appears the PS1 game Mezase! Ikusa Tama O or Senkyu/Battle Balls has been over-looked. Great little game by Seibu just a little hard at times.

Damn!

That's a shit load of puzzles.

I already got these for the PSX:

Intelligent Qube
Mr. Driller
Devil Dice (got the multi-tap for five players)
Irritating Stick (not really a puzzle, meh).

Saturn:

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

I know there's Cleopatra's Fortune for the Saturn, but the price of admission is not worth it. Columns collection for the Saturn I think having the first Columns game for the Genesis is good enough.

I'm planning to buy Builder's Block (Landmaker) for the PSX and Magical Drop III for the Saturn. Any puzzle games that's worth my time on the PSX and Saturn?

It did, but it never the jump to home format, like Brave Blade. It's a real travesty too.

Which reminds me, Builder's Block/Landmaker is another PS1 gem only problem is it can be a bit load heavy at times.

Senkyu/Battle Balls on the Seibu Kaihatsu SP1 mobo set is a really cool puzzler gem to play...I was hoping that such a USA PSX port of Battle Balls would become a reality but it never came to be...oh well. ^_~

The American Technos version of "Geom Cube" on the PSX platform isn't as good as it's original arcade PCB counterpart of Blockout...

Capcom's One Piece Mansion is another weird puzzler for the PSX...

Gubble is another budget PSX game title from the same guy who did the Atari Games arcade game of Crystal Castles (and plays like CC as well).

Top Board Shop for the PSX is a cool party puzzler to play with as well...

Simply going on the Seibu Kaihatsu name alone, I put in a last second bid and bought myself a copy.

Only after bidding did I google for info and find this thread, as well as a promising write-up on nfggames.com

Looking forward to playing it in a couple weeks.

Agreed. It's crazy how many of these are out there. Especially the innumerable ochige.
..and that Ghouls n' Ghosts (Arthur to Astaroth something or other...) puzzler on both
I think the full name is Arthur to Astarot (Asutorotto) no Nazotoki Makai Mura. It's a version of The Incredible Machine but using the characters from the Makai Mura / Ghosts n' Goblins series. No, really. I have no idea how they happened upon that idea, but that's what it is. It's a moderately rare game that usually goes for 4000 yen or so (well, it went for that 2 years ago), but I haven't looked at what the prices would be to get it overseas.
I know there's Cleopatra's Fortune for the Saturn, but the price of admission is not worth it. Columns collection for the Saturn I think having the first Columns game for the Genesis is good enough.
They released it for the PS1 in the US, and it was a bargain release at like $10 or something. The game is actually really good, I highly recommend getting it and getting into a 2-player battle with someone. Tons of fun. Yes, the JP Saturn (and DC) releases are waaaay overpriced. Actually, rather than getting the PS1 release (which is probably hard to find anyways) that you get Taito Classics 2 for the PS2. It's $20, easy to find, and has tons of great stuff, including that game. One of the best arcade compilations released here. :D
