The non-game-related "Versus" thread

Post by MadSteelDarkness »

Okay, this thread has nothing to do with which version of TFV is better...

This was inspired by the "Lindsey Lohan or Hillary Duff" question that was making the rounds in the "Post Your Bios" thread. Now, personally, I'm in my thirties, so neither of those twats interest me in the least (in fact, I'd be hard-pressed to pick either of them out in a lineup). But, I was inspired by the whole either/or question. That, and I've been drinking heavily tonight, and am bored... Feel free to come up with your own silly either/or questions...

So, without further ado, which do you prefer?:

East Cost Gangsta or West Coast Gangsta?: East Coast, fool...
Elvis or The Beatles?: Elvis
Coke or Pepsi?: Coke
Ken Foree or Ving Rhames?: Ken Foree all the way, baby.
Black Flag or Minor Threat?: Black Flag, although I prefer Ian McKaye's post-classic recordings to Henry Rollins'
Metallica or Slayer?: Slayer
Dario Argento or Lucio Fulci?: Dario Argento
Beer or Wine?: Beer (English, preferrably)
Frank Miller or Alan Moore?: Alan Moore
Marvel or DC?: When I was a kid, Marvel. Now, DC by a wide margin.
Miles Davis or John Coltrane?: Coltrane is god.
Sabbath or Zeppelin?: Black Sabbath
Dracula or Frankenstein's Monster?: Frankenstein's Monster
Freddy or Jason?: Neither...blech

That's all I can come up with at the moment. So what are your preferrences?

Great replies, guys!

Just to clarify on one question that was probably way too obscure,...Ken Foree and Ving Rhames basically played the same African-American cop/SWAT team member character in each respective version of Dawn of the Dead. I think it was really the only character to be in both versions, although there were some differences between the two, and the names may have been different. Ken Foree starred in the original...

"Wake up, sucker...we're thieves and we're bad guys..."

Awesome...

Oh, and Bruce Campbell rules over Chris Lambert, IMO. If you haven't seen Bubba Ho-Tep, you should. It's pretty fun, considering you can tell it was shot for about $1.98. Bruce plays the King himself, still alive and mouldering away in an East Texas retirement home . He teams up with an apparently African-American JFK (played wonderfully by the late, great Ossie Davis) to take on The Mummy (again,). Don Coscarelli (Phantasm, The Beastmaster) directed it.

Oh, man, I totally love Versus. Fucking genius. What could be better than zombies? Zombies with guns.

Have you seen anything else by Ryuhei Kitamura? None of his other stuff is as good as Versus. Azumi comes closest. Aragami had its moments. Heat After Dark wasn't bad, not much action though, and only about 40 minutes. Alive was kind of meh. The first half is pretty good stuff, but then the ending is just crap. Awful, utterly forced fight scene.

On a side note...

Have you ever played a shmup while tripping? acid or mush....

I've played Rez and Gta San Andreas on mush(homegrown :D), and well it was fuckin amazing. Playing san andreas on mush was like tripping in real life but in the san andreas world... hard to explain but it was incredible anyway

Shmups could also be mindblowing(melting), specially with some of the crazy bullet patterns in psyvariar...

The last time I tripped, I fasted for 36 hours and ate an 1/8 of mushrooms, then proceeded to play Ikaruga. After a while the colors blurred together and I couldn't really tell what was going on so I just gave up, though it was pretty great while it lasted. The same thing happened when I played 4 player Goldeneye years ago with some friends after we all ate 2 hits of liquid. We played with proximity mines and our vision wasn't sharp enough to spot mines on the walls and we kept forgetting where we were throwing the mines so the screen turned in to explosions and with that Bond death sound playing every 10-15 seconds.... ahh... good times.

*Black Metal vs. Metal Black: well for me, Metal Black
*Godzilla vs. James Bond: [tie] There are more good bond movies, but the first Godzilla movie is better than any bond movie.
*Fur trappers vs. Furries: ??? Can I get front row seats?
*Hetros vs. Homos: [tie] Breeders are ruining the planet, but it will never be cool to be gay.
*CD vs. MP3s: I like to own.
*Elvis vs. Beatles: Another vote for Elvis (though both are essential)
*Dario Argento or Fulci: Definitely Argento...Fulci needs a bit more movie around his gore.
*Frank Miller vs. Alan Moore: both these guys are overated, but I like select work from both. I'll go with Moore for now.
*Beer or Wine: Oh definitely beer. Best preceeded by a gin & tonic ;)
*Davis vs. Coltrane: Obviously Coltrane.
*The Good, Bad, Ugly vs. Once Upon a Time in the West: Both fall under the strength of Leone's earlier 'For a few dollars more.' Regardless, G,B&U wins this match.
*Animals vs. humans: Humans taste better.
*Horizontal vs. vertical: if I understand your meaning correctly, vertical.
*Dogs vs. Cats: Lovecraft says cats, and who am I to differ?

Well it was a long ways back, but 8 1/2 had that little romance story he wrote that ended with him and the girl he picked up 'turning to vertical' or something...though I suspect they should have 'turned to yoko'.
